The Nexus 7 2nd generation release date is said to be sometime in late July or early August. Those who have been big fans of the original N7 are thrilled about the news, but others have spotted some dealbreakers in reported specs.

The Nexus 7 2: Rumoured specs point to dealbreakers?

The Nexus 7 lacks a reliable shooter and an expansion slot. For many shoppers, these were the dealbreakers last year. The tablet refresh corrects half of this combo and improved other specs, according to rumours.

In its report, BGR said the Nexus 7 2 will sport "an upgraded 7-inch display with 1980 x 1200-pixel resolution along with a quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera and a 5-megapixel camera on the back."

Still, Google reportedly did not provide an expansion slot for its soon to be released flagship 7-incher. It is understood the company is pushing the use of Google Drive to make up for the affordable price tag of the new device.

Many Android tablet users eager to buy a new device have been quickly turned off by the lack of expansion slot on the Nexus 7 -- again. Some of them are looking into the recently released Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 instead, just because of its extra storage option.

The other remaining dealbreaker would be the Nexus 7's battery life. Mixed reviews last year showed the iPad mini last a couple of hours longer than the N7. It remains to be seen how reviewers would rate the new device's juice and power against the others.

New Nexus 7 2 Price Tag: Still affordable, still competitive

Reports say the new Nexus 7 2 price tag will be marked $199-$249 on release date. The minimum on-board storage would be 16GB.
The new Nexus 7 price is one of the reasons this refreshed tablet will gain a lot of attention, especially from Android fans. Those deliberately looking for cheap Android tablets should definitely look into the product's specs and features when it's released.

The Nexus 7 2's screen display is one of its top-notch features, second to its robust CPU-memory combo. Compared to the iPad mini's 1024 x 768 pixels, the new N7 will look more brilliant and stunning (at least indoors). Further, whereas the Apple small tablet has a dual core and 512 MB RAM, the existing Nexus 7 boasts of a quad-core with 1MB of RAM.

In Australia, the existing Nexus 7 (16 GB, WiFi only) costs A$289.95. It is upgradable to the latest Android, Jelly Bean 4.2. Being a Google device, it is first in line to receive Android 5 Key Lime Pie -- if it doesn't already run on the new OS when it is released.
