The upcoming Nexus tablet from Google is referred by multiple names across tech websites. The names include HTC Nexus 9, Volantis (code name) and Nexus 8. Although, there is no clarity on the actual name of the device, rest assured the device will be the successor of the much-loved Nexus 7 tablet.

Paul O'Brien, founder of MoDaCo, tweeted that an unnamed source tipped the Nexus 9/8 release date as October 16. The upcoming Nexus tablet will reportedly feature a 9-inch (some say 8.9-inch) high-resolution display. The ultimate specification out of all the reported configurations got to be the superior NVIDIA Tegra K1 chip on-board the Nexus 8/9. It is worth mentioning that, the Tegra K1 has trumped all the other processors, including the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 in various benchmark testing sites. Furthermore, the tablet will run Google's latest Android L (v5.0) OS. Notably, none of the devices released thus far has Android L under the hood. Therefore, October 16 could be the day to get a glimpse of the device powered by Android L, says Phone Arena.

On the contrary, PC Advisor reports that HTC has scheduled a special event on October 8 in New York and this could be the day Nexus 8 will be unveiled. The same publication also opines that, if October 8 is not the launch date, then Google might announce the Nexus 8 during Android L's release i.e. autumn 2014. Be it (October 16/8) or (Nexus 9/Nexus 8), Google will release only one tablet and October seems to be the month to look out for. It is worth reminding that, Nexus 6 smartphone is also rumoured to be in the offing as a replacement for the Nexus 5, which apparently will turn 1 on October 31.

Moving on to the price details of Nexus 8/9, the import and export database pertaining to India named Zauba points to a price of INR 16,484. This amount roughly translates to US$271 and AU$302. When it comes to interesting features, The Wall Street Journal earlier reported that the upcoming Nexus device will feature two back cameras, infrared sensors and a software to capture 3D images, reports PC Advisor.

Furthermore, the tablet will be released alongside a one-of-a-kind tube-shaped camera in the likes of GoPro with 16 MP sensor and a waterproof exterior, which can be paired. As far as the key specification goes, the 9.0-inch Nexus 8/9 will be complimented by a full HD resolution and will be backed by 3 GB of RAM. Also, the device will come with 16 GB of internal storage capacity and microSD card slot for expansion up to 128 GB. In addition, Nexus 8/9 owners will also get 100 GB of free Google cloud storage space for two years, reports NDTV.
