Nexus 5 remains the only gadget from Google running on Android 4.4 KitKat. Many expected the Internet giant to launch the second generation Nexus 10 alongside the Nexus 5 but it did not push through. Now, there are more reports saying Google will not only be releasing Nexus 10 but also relative products via Nexus 8 and 12. As the tech giant seems intent in filling the market with Nexus products, which should consumers really consider? An 8, 10 or 12?

Nexus 8

Ealier in February this year, a concept image of the Nexus 8 surfaced together with concepts for Nexus 5 and Nexus 11. During that time, people only speculated about Google's possible tablet. Nonetheless, in November 2, 2013, an image posted on Google's website reportedly hinted that Nexus 8 may actually exist.

The image spotted shows a woman holding a tablet that is very different from the Nexus 7. It is also not as large as the Nexus 10; thus, many suspected Google to be dropping hints about the Nexus 8. Some sources say that it is possible Google is subtly hyping the market, while others said it might just be a badly edited image.

The Nexus 8, as the name implies, will likely sport an 8-inch screen. It will also highly likely run with Android 4.4 KitKat unless Google has another OS update.

Some speculated specs include anno 2012 Snapdragon S4 and a variety of 28 nm quad-core chips. While some sources think it can have a 64-bit part, there are those claiming it would be more realistic to expect A15, A12 or custom ARMv7 cores. So far, there are no more reported specs about the Nexus 8 unlike the Nexus 10 and the Nexus 12.

Google Nexus 10 2

More reports confirm the release of the second generation Nexus 10 by Nov 21. Previously, people thought Google will release it at the same time with the Nexus 5 but that did not materialise. This time, reports say there is a high chance for a Nov 21 release. Google will want to target the holiday rush and great potential sales.

Among the reported specs of the Nexus 10 2 include:

  • OS: Android 4.4 KitKat
  • Screen: Super PLS 10.1 in (2,560 x 1,600, 299ppi), Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • Processor: 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or nVidia Tegra 4
  • GPU: Adreno 330 (if CPU is Qualcomm)
  • Storage: Up to 32 GB (no microSD)
  • RAM: 2 GB or 3 GB
  • Cameras: 8 Mp rear, 2.1 Mp front
  • Connectivity: dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, dual-side NFC, microUSB
  • Battery: Li-po 9,500mAh non-removable

Once the Google Nexus 10 becomes available on Nov 21, it will have an advantage over the Nexus 8 and the Nexus 12: people can buy it.

The Nexus 12 Dream

It is important to establish that the Nexus 12 remains a just a concept among Android fans. User TheTechnoToast posted his expectations if ever Google will release a Nexus 12 slate. The following are the imagined specs:

  • A 12-inch screen with a 5120×3200 Gorilla Glass 4 capacitive touch screen at 503 pixels-per-inch
  • 4GB of RAM (expandable to 6GB)
  • A 2.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000
  • Android 4.5 Kit Kat (an incremental upgrade to 4.4)
  • A 3MP front facing camera
  • A 13MP back camera that can shoot up to 4K
  • 5 powerful neodymium magnet speakers on either side of the device
  • Windows RT and Chrome OS Ready (multi-boot)
  • Optional official pre-root with partnership with the creators of SuperUser and Cyanogenmod
  • All tablets shipped with 4G LTE ready chips
  • And standard features (NFC, Bluetooth, etc.)

Again, this is just a concept, and while it looks lovely on paper - not to mention that many potential tablet buyers would love to get their hands on such a product - we'll have to wait a while to see something like this hit stores.

The concept specs emphasises how a number of Android fans wish to see more high-end slates from the tech manufacturer. However, some sources contend that suggesting a slate with such premium features may be too far head, although Google never fails to surprise and succeed.
