NFL 2016 Preseason: Browns gets Gordon back; could help team on offense
Could help team on offence
The NFL is allowing Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon to play in the NFL again this season, which could be a big boost to the Browns offence.
The NFL said in a press release on Tuesday that Commissioner Roger Goodell had notified Gordon that he has been reinstated to the NFL on a conditional basis. Gordon will be serving a four-game suspension at the start of the season before he is allowed to play for the Browns. During the suspension, Gordon is allowed to participate in team meetings and other activities but is not allowed to participate or attend practices or games.
Gordon is also allowed to join the team in training camp and participate in meetings, conditioning work and similar activities. Once Gordon’s clinical resources in Cleveland is confirmed, he will be allowed to participate in all preseason activities, including practices and games. The wide receiver had been suspended indefinitely last February 2015 without pay due to multiple violations of the NFL-NFLPA Policy and Programs for Substances of Abuse.
Having Gordon back will be a big boost to the Browns offence coming into the 2016-2017 NFL season.
According to the NFL website, Gordon is just three years removed from leading the league in receiving yards in 2013 despite playing in only 13 games. Gordon had 1,646 receiving yards during the 2013 season.
If the wide receiver is able to return to form and rookie Corey Coleman blooms, the Browns would have a potentially exciting wideout group to watch out for in the 2016-2017 season. New Browns Coach Hue Jackson also has running back Duke Johnson, a special pass-catcher, to work with this season.
If Gordon is able to stay out of trouble and contribute to the team’s passing game that is desperately in need of playmakers, Cleveland Browns fans can look forward to an exciting Browns offence this coming 2016-2017 season.
