NFL News: Cleveland Browns In Talks With Tennessee To Move Up In Draft
Aiming to pick up Marcus Mariota with No. 2 pick.
The Cleveland Browns are in discussions with the Tennessee Titans to acquire their No. 2 pick in the NFL draft to be held tonight. The Browns are making a move in order to pick up Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota, according to an ESPN report on Wednesday night.
Mariota is expected to be picked up at No. 2 in the draft while Florida’s Jameis Winston, another quarterback is expected to go No. 1. Mariota threw 42 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy in college football last season.
ESPN reports that the Browns have so far offered their 12th and 19th picks in the first round while the final price may be even more. However, the report also says that both teams have denied having very substantial discussions and that it was common practice for teams to hold such initial talks before draft night. ESPN goes on to add that the Titans have fielded multiple calls from teams around the league to know at what cost they might be interested in letting go of the No. 2 pick.
The Browns already have quarterbacks in Johnny Manziel, who they drafted in the 2014 draft, and Josh McCown, from free agency this offseason. But Manziel is currently in rehab trying to curd his hard partying lifestyle, which had in trouble through the course of a rookie season last year.
Browns manager Ray Farmer had already addressed rumors of trades last week. “I would go up if it was the right circumstance, and I would go back if it was the right circumstance. A lot of the scuttlebutt that you hear and the conjecture and the noise that's out there, it changes the complexion of trying to get a deal done. If everybody thinks that you want something, your price just went up," Farmer told reporters, as per ESPN.
