Johnny Manziel has finished his rehabilitation program. The promising but controversial quarterback of the Cleveland Browns, who is in his rookie season in the National Football League, or NFL, voluntarily entered the drug and alcohol treatment facility in late January 2015. He is now expected to re-join the Browns in time for the offseason workouts starting on April 20.

The Manziel update is being reported by ESPN.com, which also stated that sources close to the young quarterback said that Manziel did great during his treatment and excited to play football to prepare for the upcoming 2015-2016 NFL Season.
Manziel was drafted as the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Browns. He saw limited action in the past season playing in just 5 of 16 games for Cleveland. For the year, the 22 year old quarterback finished with 175 passing yards on 18 of 35 completions, or 51.4 per cent passing rate. He recorded zero touchdowns and had 2 interceptions.

Manziel will be competing against Josh McCown for the starting QB spot with the Browns. MCown signed with a three year contract worth $14 million with the Browns in this NFL offseason.

"Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate, and he thought the offseason was the right time to take this step," Brad Beckworth, a friend of Manziel and the latter’s family said in an official statement back in January. "On behalf of Johnny and his family, we're asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland.” McCown is already 35 years old and is not seen as a long-term solution at the QB spot for Cleveland but the franchise values his potential to bring stability to the team especially with the history of Manziel.

McCown, after he signed with the team, stated that he’s willing to help out the team’s younger quarterbacks particularly Manziel. The Browns also have the No. 12 and No. 19 picks in the 2015 NFL Draft and it remains to be seen if they try to move up in the annual rookie selection and draft a prospect quarterback.
