With a strained relationship in the past, the Minnesota Vikings and Adrian Peterson met on Wednesday to discuss the issues surrounding both sides and work on a possible deal to retain star running back in Minnesota.

Josina Anderson of ESPN reported that Peterson met with Vikings’ head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman on Wednesday.

Anderson also got a statement from Peterson after the meeting, which reportedly took four hours. "I appreciate Rick [Spielman] and Coach [Mike] Zimmer coming down to see me today. We had a great dialogue and they were able to understand where I was coming from and concerns my family and I still have,” Peterson said to Anderson. “We respect each other and hopefully the situation can pan out so that everyone involved is content."

Earlier in the 2014 offseason, reports have stated that Minnesota is open to getting back Peterson if he takes care of the off the field issues. The controversial Peterson was suspended by the league on Nov. 18, 2014 because of incidents involving abusive discipline towards his four year old son.

In earlier interviews, Peterson has stated that he’s unsure of a return to the Vikings because he’s uneasy with a lot of things that happened in the past. The recent meeting with the head coach and general manager should clear up some of the issues although Peterson admitted that he “still have” concerns, according to his statement.

Despite the off the field issues, Peterson is still considered one of the best running backs in the league making the NFL Pro Bowl in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. He led the league in total rushing yards in 2008 when he had 1,760 and in 2012 with 2,097 yards.
