NFL News: James Harrison Stays With Pittsburgh Steelers, Signs 2-Year Deal
James Harrison shared in his Instagram account on Saturday that he’s torn between moving to the Tennessee Titans or re-signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a that he has played for in the National Football League, or NFL for 10 seasons. The 36 year old veteran linebacker finally decide on Sunday and announced his decision to stay with the Steelers also on social media.
“I'm back #steelersnation” Harrison posted on Instagram announcing his return to the team he has played for since 2004 except in the 2013 season when he played for the Cincinnati Bengals. He considered the Titans because of the connection to new Tennessee assistant coach Dick LeBeau, who was the defensive coordinator for the Steelers during Harrison’s time with the team and whom the linebacker consider as his mentor. The Steelers also announced the re-signing of their veteran defensive player on Twitter:
“He’s valuable in the building right now. He’s been in the building voluntarily since really the end of the season. It’s been amazing to watch. And those young guys see it and they’re like, ‘OK, I think I’m supposed to do that, too.’ They’re all kind of following his lead,” Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said in the team’s official website. “I really think he’s taken on a mentorship role and seems to really be enjoying it, and I think that’s important. Plus, we think he can still help us on the field, for sure.”
The deal is reportedly for two years and Harrison will most likely retire from the NFL as a Steeler. Harrison is a five time NFL Pro Bowler making the elite squad in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 and has helped the Steelers to a pair of NFL titles winning Super Bowl XL in 2006 and Super Bowl XLIII in 2009.
