Star quarterback Russell Wilson and his team, the Seattle Seahawks have started discussing a contract extension although the talks have not made “much progress” in this offseason of the National Football League, or NFL, according to a report from Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.

The 26 year old Wilson, who has an undervalued contract as the QB is still in his rookie deal, has helped the Seahawks to two Super Bowl appearances in the last three seasons and the NFL championship in 2014 winnng Seahawks general manager, or GM, John Schneider said in a separate interview that they should need to evaluate what kind of deal they give Wilson, who is expected to demand a rich long-term contract.

“Every negotiation is unique in and of itself and this is no different," Seattle GM John Schneider said to ESPN.com on Wednesday. "He's our quarterback. We'd love him to be our quarterback. But the thing is we need to keep as many of these guys together as we possibly can. What I can tell you is that this is the ultimate team sport. We have a track record of rewarding our players that we recognize as core players."

Schneider went on to say that they want to remain consistent as a title contender in the next few years but that they will make a “smart decision” with regards to contract extensions of their core players. Because he is still in his rookie deal, Wilson is about to get paid $1.5 million in his fourth year in the league since joining Seattle in 2012. A new deal will start at around $15 million to $20 million per season, comparable to other contracts by other top quarterbacks in the NFL.

The report from Terry Blount of ESPN stated that a deal between Wilson and the Seahawks is “very close” and to expect something different in the contract. Wilson has made the NFL Pro Bowl twice in his career, in 2013 and 2014, with 9,950 passing yards and 1,877 rushing yards with 72 passing touchdowns, 26 interceptions and 11 rushing TDs in his three-year NFL career.
