NFL News: RB Adrian Peterson Not Changing His Mind About Leaving Minnesota Vikings
Adrian Peterson still wants to leave the Minnesota Vikings with the star running back not changing his stance of getting away from the franchise because of the strained relationship between the two parties. The National Football League, or NFL season officially got underway on Tuesday with a number of transactions from free agency sign-ups to team trades marking what was an active opening day in the new football season.
Peter King of Sports Illustrated updated the Peterson-Vikings situation stating that the Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, may pull the trigger in acquiring Peterson if the relationship between Peterson and the Vikings will lead to him being released by the Minnesota franchise.
Earlier in the offseason, Minnesota officials including general manager Rick Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer have stated that they will welcome Peterson back with the squad. The star running back even had a fruitful dialogue with the pair in early March but Peterson walked away without a commitment on a possible return to the team.
Even before Peterson’s meeting with the Vikings GM and head coach, the player is said to be hesitant returning because he’s uneasy with a lot of things that happened in the past. Peterson was suspended on Nov. 18 2014 because of his involvement in child abuse against his four year old son. He appealed the decision but was denied during that time and was reinstated recently after a court order favoured Peterson’s appeal.
As for the Jones’ interest in Peterson, the Dallas owner was quoted saying that he’s a fan of the star running back and that the franchise will explore the possibilities of acquiring him in the 2015 offseason. Despite the off the field issues, Peterson is still considered one of the top running backs in the league making the Pro Bowl six times in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. The 29 year old Peterson played only one game in the 2014 season because of the suspension.
