The New Orleans Saints have signed running back C.J. Spiller to a four year deal worth over $18 million to continue their busy 2015 offseason in the National Football League. Adam Schefter, NFL Insider for ESPN.com, reported the deal and terms of the contract including a $9 million guaranteed money and a $5 million signing bonus.

Earlier in the offseason, the Saints traded away wide receiver Kenny Stills to the Miami Dolphins as well as top tight end Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks. The Saints also released back-up cornerback Corey White last Friday.

The 27 year old Spiller will be joining a Saints’ backfield featuring Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson. Spiller will join the new-look Saints squad that will also feature outside linebacker Dannell Ellerbe,, cornerback Brandon Bowner and centre Max Unger among the 2015 offseason acquisitions.

The team welcomed Spiller to their team on Twitter after the signing.

Except for the 2014 season when he played in just 9 games because of injuries, Spiller was consistently in the starting line-up playing 14 games or more in four of the five seasons in Buffalo. Spiller was the ninth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills and has played with that franchise for all his first five years in the league.

Spiller’s best season came in his third year in the league, in 2012, when he ran for 1,244 rushing yards on 207 carries and finished with six rushing touchdowns. Spiller played college football at Clemson where he was chosen as part of the All-American team in 2009. He made the NFL Pro Bowl once, in 2012 and has 3,321 rushing yards and 12 rushing TDs in his five-year NFL career.
