The latest circulating entertainment reports on the reason behind Nina Dobrev and Derek Hough split links the name of ex-boyfriend and "Vampire Diaries" heartthrob co-star Ian Somerhalder.

In the CelebDirtyLaundry.com report, it appears Nina and Ian still has an ongoing bond between them despite ending their three-year romantic relationship in early May. Is this connection the cause for Nina's new romance with "Dancing with the Stars" professional dancer and choreographer Derek Hough to end so soon?

The report reads: "Not only are he and Nina still connected at the hip but she even double checked with Ian before going to dinner with Derek! Obviously her "The Vampire Diaires" co-star still has a strangle hold on Nina and once Derek really realized just how hooked on her ex she still is, he pulled the plug."

However, the Us Weekly report initially claimed that Nina Dobrev, 24, and Derek Hough, 28, mutually decided to end their romantic relationship due to the long distance between them since Ms Dobrev films the successful CW TV series in Atlanta while Mr Hough focuses on his dancing career in Los Angeles, California.

Additionally, an anonymous source revealed to Us Weekly about "Nina and Derek's relationship playing itself out." A friend source of Nina and Derek also shared: "The distance was too much to handle."

In the mean time, some TVD fans are happy that the Canadian brunette beauty is single once again and they are rooting for the reconciliation between the ex-lovers since Nina and Ian still has an undeniable chemistry on- and off-screen. The "Nian" and "Delena" fans will be really thrilled if Ian and Nina gave their relationship one more try and be able to make it work out the second time around.

There may be no confirmation about Ian and Nina rekindling their romance, but the pair continues to show sweet onscreen moments as vampires Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5. For now, devoted TVD fans can see an in-love Ian and Nina in the Season 5 episodes of "The Vampire Diaries" that airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on the CW network.
