The DS family welcomes a new member that will be due by October 12 for just $130 - the Nintendo 2DS! As it is called, the gadget is said to play all games under the 3DS and DS category but all in 2D version.

Its main features include a dual screen, similar to the size of the screens of the 3DS, a circle pad, a speaker, the usual DS face buttons and a camera. According to Nintendo, this latest 2DS gadget is compatible with the thousands of Nintendo DS games in their present library. It can also be used for accessing online games at multiplayer level and other offerings at the Nintendo eShop.

It also has carrying cases in colours of blue and red which will also be made available during the launching date, but at $13.

Will First Impressions Last?

In an interesting review made by Brett Molina of USA Today, he shared that the Nintendo 2DS is way lighter and thinner at the same time. Most of the buttons were moved up since the gadget has no hinges as it says goodbye to the usual clamshell design of the Nintendo DS models.

Mr Molina added that anyone might find it weird at first to hold the gadget in a new slate design but once games are played, any player would actually find it very comfortable to handle. It fits perfectly between the player's hands making it the perfect gaming pad for playing your next racing game or exploring a horrific RPG.

If there's one problem that can be foreseen with this device is that there will be less protection for the screen since it cannot be closed anymore. But then, there's optional cases to be sold. But what about the frustration it can give to players who are fond of playing 3D games? Imagine playing Super Mario 3D Land with the 2DS and for sure, it would not be the same.

So do you think that the Nintendo 2DS can bring in high sales for the company only at $130 each? Get back to us for more details on this Nintendo gadget after its launch by October 12.
