Google Nexus 10 2 release date may not happen at all, as the search engine giant is shifting its focus to Nexus 8, according to a report.

DigiTimes cited unnamed sources from the supply chain claiming that Google is shifting its focus from the 7-inch to the 8-inch market to release the Nexus 8 tablet in the second half of 2014. The report did not give out the specific time of arrival, but based on previous releases, the Nexus 8 will most probably be launched at the calendar slot of Nexus 7.

Google announces Nexus 7 tablets in mid-year alongside a new version of Android OS. Last year, Google released the successor of the Nexus 7 along with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. DigiTimes added that the waning sales of the Nexus 7 tablet led to Google's shift to a slightly larger display this year.

Details about the Nexus 8 tablet are scarce. However, reports said that the device will pack a chipset from Intel or Qualcomm. It also seemed that ASUS will be in charged of manufacturing the tablet. It is most likely that Google will put a halt in Nexus 7 production.

Rumours about the Nexus 8 swirled last year after Google accidentally slipped a photo of the alleged tablet on its Web site. The Nexus 7 faces a stiff competitor in Apple. The new iPad Mini with retina display offers a slightly bigger screen display and has become very popular among consumers.

There are hearsays claiming that the Nexus 8 tablet will also replace the missing successor of Nexus 10, although Google is still tight-lipped on its roadmap and details for the rest of the year as well as the devices it will release.

The Nexus 8 rumoured features also include 8-inch LCD screen display with 1,200 x 1,920 pixel resolution. As mentioned, the device may be powered by quad-core Snapdragon 600 CPU clocked at 1.7 GHz or an Intel chipset. It is said to also pack an Adreno 320 graphics chip, back and front cameras, and run with the latest Android 4.4 KitKat.
