No mean jokes for Oscars, says Anne Hathaway
Upcoming hosts at this year’s Academy Awards reveal no insulting jokes at the awards night
Having learned that calling people out at the awards shows could earn them unexpected enemies, upcoming and first time Academy Awards hosts, James Franco and Anne Hathaway reveal that their plan on Sunday’s awards night will in no way come closer to like what Ricky Gervais did at this year’s Golden Globe.
“I can guarantee that if you're looking for someone to call people out, we're not your hosts,” Anne Hathaway was quoted as saying by Reuters, Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Belloni in an interview.
Fear for earning enemies not praises however, is not the only reason why Franco and Hathaway are not planning on making nasty jokes on stage.
Anne Hathaway shared her apprehension in making the kind of humor recently seen at the Golden Globe.
She said, “I think that humor is really difficult to pull off, and I’m not particularly adept at it. I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it”.
Hathaway added that being the youngest host in the history of Oscars does not place her in a position to do a repeat of Golden Globe and be another Gervais.
Hathaway said, “… I don't mean to sound overly serious, but I am the youngest host in history and I have no business being cynical or calling anyone out. I certainly haven't earned the right to do that.”
James Franco, 32 and Anne Hathaway, 28 according to Reuters were considered for the job to host this year’s Academy Awards for they represent youth and energy that will compliment this year’s Oscars theme.
The producers and organizers of the much-coveted accolade have developed the idea of making this year’s Oscars a ‘visual journey through movie history’ and should be hosted by ‘young and energetic actors’.
