Could it be that the Android world is waiting in vain for the second Nexus 10 edition as a possibility emerged that Google is keen on killing the 10-inch tablet form-factor in favour of a 12-inch full-sized slate from Samsung?

In a report, The Motley Fool floated the idea that the Nexus 10 2 will not see the light of the day, not anymore as Google would supposedly bump up the screen size of what was touted as the Android challenger to Apple's 9.7-inch iPad Air.

The same report suggested that instead of slugging it out with the industry leader iPad Air, Google and Samsung would collaborate to carve out a new segment from the constantly exploding global tablet market.

In the new tablet territory, the two tech titans appear to be training their sights on twin objectives - gain a significant foothold on a turf that Apple's iPad continues to dominate and re-capture the interest of notebook users.

Google and Samsung are gunning to hit two birds with a single stone via the Nexus 12, which is envisioned by The Motley Fool as a hybrid device - acting as stand-alone device and serving as a powerful laptop when docked to keyboard that will come right out of the box.

"A new form-factor could help drum up general consumer interest, but it could also allow tablets to enter new markets," said the tech site.

Apparently, Google's move is in response to the declining popularity of conventional computing machines, in which laptops fall. The search giant seems looking to fill a void that the traditional laptop's impending demise would create.

At the same time, the company would reinvigorate its Nexus full-sized tablet business, which in the first Nexus 10 was not exactly a commercial success compared to the iPad and Samsung's various Galaxy tablet forms.

In killing the Nexus 10 and issuing the Nexus 12 in its stead, it will be a win-win situation for both Google and Samsung, The Motley Fool story argued, adding that the collaboration will specifically favour the latter.

"Samsung's 12.2-inch tablet could help the company grow its sales," said the tech site.

Also, analysts believe that a 12-inch tablet that stands on stock Android will meet head-on with the rumoured iPad Pro, which is said to sport a 12-inch or 13-inch screen and will present functions similar to that of Mac notebooks.

In short, the Nexus 12 is intended to combat with the planned big-screen iPad that is a cross between the 10-inch iPad Air and the 13-inch MacBook Air.

If realised, the Nexus 12 departs from earlier suggestions that Google and Samsung will release the Nexus 10 2 bearing a 10.5-inch AMOLED screen panel

The same Nexus 10 2 tablet is rumoured to come out in January 2014 with a likely release date of early February of the same year.
