iOS hacker and developer confirmed that the untethered that he developed works with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G and Apple TV running on iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1, except on iPhone 4S.

iOS hacker and developer pod2G said that he is working on the untethered jailbreak for the latest generation of iPhone. In a post he published, he wrote, "The untether fails right now because I'm having processor cache issues. I'm close, but I can't figure out what happens. It certainly has something to do with the Cortex-A9 cache management. I could sort it out quick, it's a matter of chance. I'll report you my progress tomorrow."

The untethered jailbreak will also not work on iPad 2 since the device is also powered by Apple's A5 processor. Currently, there is no available untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. In an updated post, he said that he was able to get past with problems on processor caching issues.

Earlier this month, Pod2G and Chronic Dev released a video of his iPod Touch running iOS 5 untethered jailbreak. Pod2G later on confirmed that his jailbreak is working on iOS 5.0.1 as well. Now Pod2G in his twitter feed suggested that an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad2 might be possible. Though not confirmed yet, if possible, this will the best new for iPhone 4S users.

The only problem Pod2G has right now is access to an iPhone 4S or an iPad 2. He doesn't own an iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to test his recent iOS 5.0 / 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. Passing his jailbreak to another team member for testing is another issue. Because they are aware that this testing and transfer of exploits have caused huge issues between the members and the teams.

However, there is an update from pod2G in relation with the caching issues. He said that he figured out that the A5 cache is no longer a problem in developing the jailbreak for the latest iPhone and iPad.

Thus, we all shall wait if pod2G will be able to find out how to make the untethered jailbreak work on iPhone 4S.
