Nokia 3310 MWC 2017 highlights: What does the new classic have to offer
Nokia has recently been grabbing headlines for its redesigned Nokia 3310. On Sunday, the reimagined Nokia phone was revealed to the world along with the Nokia 3, 5 and 6. Finnish company HMD Global made this possible by working alongside Nokia and Microsoft.
Although the Nokia 3310 was presented after the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 were presented, the crowd at the MWC 2017 was ecstatic. The round of applause was very loud and some spectators even hooted to show their excitement. When presented, an actual redesigned Nokia 3310 unit was taken and shown on stage. It was small and very handy.
The speaker said that the phone still has the popular Nokia game, Snake. However, it will be a newer version. On top of this, the phone boasts of at least 22 hours of talk time. Furthermore, the battery time of the phone on standby mode comes to a staggering 25 days. It was announced during the presentation of the phone that this is 10 times longer than the original 3310.
“There are a lot of legendary phone models in Nokia’s history,” HMD’s chief product officer Juha Sarvikas said. “We thought long and hard about whether we should be bringing back a legend… and then we decided to remake the 3310.”
The new phone also comes in four colours, Yellow, Red, Dark Blue and Gray. The first two colours will have a gloss finish while the latter will have a matte finish. The best part about this phone is its price. Unlike the phone today that costs hundreds and sometimes thousands, the Nokia 3310 will only cost €49.99 (AU$68.69).
The phone is built on an S30+ operating platform. This was not developed by Nokia but by MediaTek. Although the phone will not be able to download apps, it will still come with what basic phones need. This includes voice and text messaging, internet browsing through Opera and music listening, which is apparently 51 hours of MP3s. There is also a camera but it is not that good compared to the ones today. It is only 2MP compared to the 8MP or 16MP available in other smartphones, according to Tech Crunch.
The phone also has two SIM slots and built-in classic game of Snake. The phone is dual band 900MHz/1800MHz. It also comes with a curved window with polarised layer for better readability in sunlight. This new Nokia 3310 also has a MicroSD card expandable up to 32GB.
The Mobile World Congress 2017 (MWC 2017) kicked off with great smartphones to hit the market this year. There are a lot of notable phones like the LG G6, ZTE’s Gigabit phone and Samsung’s S8 series.
