Nokia Hints Entering The Mobile PhoneBusiness In 2016 With Android Smartphones
Last Thursday, Nokia had held a press conference to report its strong third quarter performance. During the meeting, Timo Ihamuotila who is the CFO of the company expressed that the Nokia brand name is immsensely popular in the mobile phone world and he added that at the moment they are unable to use the brand name. By this, he hinted entering the smartphone market in the future. The iconic company name is well-known for building quality handsets across the globe, especially in the emerging markets.
Earlier this year, the mobile devices division of Nokia was acquired by Microsoft. With the acquisition, Microsoft has killed the Nokia brand name. Nokia Power User states that the Finland based is looking forward to re-enter the smartphone business in the near future. However, the catch is that according to the terms of the deal with Microsoft, the company will not be able to use the Nokia when it will reestablish itself in the smartphone business.
Currently, Microsoft is making use the Lumia brand name for its mobile devices. According to Forbes, the deal allows Microsoft to use the Nokia brand name for the smartphones that will be sold under the Microsoft banner for 18 months. And the feature phones will also continue to have the Nokia branding under Microsoft banner for 10 months. Ubergizmo states that the lock-up period of the acquisition does not allow the Finland based company to use the branding until it expires in 2016.
PhoneArena states that the arrival of HERE Maps and Z Launcher for Android is major hint that the future handsets that will be made by Nokia will be powered by Android OS. By the way, Nokia has already its luck with building Android handsets (devoid of Google Services) like Nokia X and Nokia XL. Nokia wants to enter the smartphone market again but it seems that the company will wait until the Nokia brand name becomes available for them.
One should be aware of the fact that with the acquisition, the employees and human resource of Nokia have also been transferred to Microsoft. According to Ubergizmo, the company will not only have to work on that but also needs to have huge capital to take on market giants like Apple, Samsung and other smartphone brands.
