Nokia may be in a relationship with Windows Phone 7 but that doesn't mean that it's not looking at other operating systems, namely Intel's MeeGo.

Intel developed the MeeGo Os as a joint project with Nokia's previous administration. The project was dropped when Nokia got brand new management and the new CEO Stephen Elop decided to go with Windows Phone 7. However, Elop seemed to be rethinking this association because Nokia is going to be exploring adding MeeGo for some new Nokia products.

According to an article in PC Mag Jo Harlow, Nokia's executive vice president of smart devices said on Wednesday that "You're going to see the first MeeGo device soon."

Rumors about Nokia's MeeGo device have been circulating various blogs and boards around the internet. The N9 or the N950 will be the MeeGo device. It might run on an Intel Atom processor, there might be a QWERTY keyboard. There are even YouTube videos showing the mysterious device but like videos of Bigfoot they can't be confirmed.

Harlow has denied any truth behind the rumors. Harlow added that the MeeGo device will be a high-end smartphone aimed for the early-adopter tech geek.

MeeGo has been floundering without Nokia's support. The MeeGo tablets and laptops have failed to gain much traction in the market. Things might be looking up for the OS with the announcement that four companies, Red Flag Softwar, Linpus, 4tiitoo AG, and China Standard Software Company are all planning to incorporate MeeGo in their operating systems. All four companies will use MeeGo for their tablets and feature a MeeGo user interface.

Windows Phone 7 may still be Nokia's main priority but that doesn't mean that MeeGo won't have a chance in the company. Harlow added that Nokia didn't continue with the MeeGo platform because it wasn't mature enough to build a platform around.
