Nokia Lumia 1020 vs. iPhone 5: Can the 41MP Camera Phone Defeat the Apple iOS Device? [PHOTOS]
The recently unveiled Nokia Lumia 1020 is expected to be the smartphone that can defeat another leading rival smartphone in the market, the Apple iPhone 5. The incorporated 41MP camera with PureView technology is the selling point of the new Windows Phone 8 handset which helps the Finnish company compete with the technology giant.
With the Lumia 1020, Nokia can attract the consumers with the smartphone's ability to capture high quality images against the rival smartphones like iPhone 5 which features an 8MP camera with 3264x2448p resolution. Both smartphones have 1.2MP front-facing cameras.
The 41MP camera comes with 6 Carl-Zeiss lenses, LED flash, Xenon flash and impressive camera features. The Dual Capture feature allows the Nokia Lumia 1020 user to capture two separate pictures of 38MP and 5MP at the same time where the 38MP type of image can be used for editing purposes while the 5MP type can be used in sharing on the social networking sites.
However, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is being slammed for not offering one of the most favored photo sharing apps, Instagram. A main issue on the Windows Phone 8 OS handset is the less number of available apps in its store compared to the iOS since it takes one or two years before the developers can launch the apps for the Windows Phone device.
Another issue with the Nokia Lumia 1020 is the available 32GB internal storage capacity without the microSD card slot for memory expansion. The storage size is rather small given that the smartphone has a powerful camera with remarkable HD+ screen display.
Instead, Nokia offers a 7GB Cloud storage where users can simply capture images and then upload them on the Cloud service. Apple's iPhone 5 allows the consumers to choose from the available storage capacities of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 has a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ AMOLED screen display, the 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, Adreno 225 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The iPhone 5, on the other hand, sports a smaller screen size of 4 inches with 1136x640p resolution, 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.
Both devices have support for Wi-Fi connection, Bluetooth and microUSB but Nokia Lumia 1020 has the advantage of offering NFC. In terms of battery, the new Nokia device is powered with the 2000mAh battery capable of 383 standby hours and 13 hours of talk time under the 3G network while iPhone 5 has a 1440mAh battery capacity that can last for 225 standby hours and 9 hours of 3G network talk time.
U.S. carrier AT&T exclusively offers the Nokia Lumia 1020 32GB model in yellow, white and color choices at a price of $299 on a two-year contract. The Apple iPhone 5 prices are $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB and $399 for 64GB with availability on Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.
