No sooner than Amazon rolled out its first attempt at the smartphone industry through the Amazon Fire Phone than Microsoft also gets more colourful with the set July release of its premium flagship phone Nokia Lumia 930 in Australia. So how does Nokia Lumia 930 fare against Amazon Fire Phone?

Display

In terms of display, the Nokia Lumia 930 has slightly bigger and better display compared with the Amazon Fire Phone. The Nokia Web site revealed Nokia Lumia 930 has a 5-inch screen with a display resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and image density of 441 pixels per inch (ppi).

Meanwhile, the Amazon Fire Phone has a 4.7-inch high-quality LCD display, with a screen resolution of 1,280 x 720 with an image density of 315 ppi.

Camera

The Nokia Lumia 930 also comes with better camera specs than the Amazon Fire Phone. The device sports a 20-MP PureView camera with dual LED flash plus four directional microphones with surround sound.

Meanwhile, the Amazon Fire Phone only has 13-MP camera with f/2.0 lens with optical image stabilisation, panorama, burst and action shots with unlimited photo storage.

Processors and Operating Systems

Both Nokia Lumia 930 and Amazon Fire Phone have the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processors clocked at 2.2 GHz. But when it comes to operating systems, the two smartphones run on totally different systems. The Nokia Lumia 930 runs on the latest Windows Phone 8.1 operating system, while the Amazon Fire Phone runs on Fire OS 3.5.0.

Memory

Both Nokia Lumia 930 and Amazon Fire Phone also have the same 2 GB RAM and an internal memory of 32 GB. However, the Nokia Lumia 930 has 7 GB of cloud storage from Microsoft OneDrive. Meanwhile, the Amazon Fire Phone only has an added 5 GB of extra free space via the Amazon Cloud Drive.

Others Specs

The Nokia Lumia 930 has pre-installed Nokia MixRadio. It also comes with a plethora of apps for personal information management like Kid's Corner, OneNote, Family Room, Social networks in Phonebook and Wallet. There are also business apps included like Lync (Corporate IM) free download and Company Hub for enterprise applications. The Windows phone also come with document format support for PDF, Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint. There are also sync type apps included such as Exchange ActiveSync and Nokia Photo Transfer for Mac. It even sports a papyrus app which allows users to take down notes in their natural handwriting just like a paper. The device also has Adidas miCoach as well as built-in game apps like Touch UI, XBox-Live Hub and DirectX 11. Social apps like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and WhatsApp are also available. Many more apps are available for Windows phone users to use and enjoy.

Meanwhile, the Amazon Fire Phone comes with free 12-month membership to its prime service so users can choose from 33 million titles of music, movies and TV shows. There is also a 3-D effect included which allows users to view any image, map or Web content in a different way.

The smartphone's camera also scans for books, DVDs, phone numbers, QR codes, CDs, games and all other kinds of media. Then, it searches for the product in the Amazon database and finds a version users can buy from the online shopping Web site.

Price

In terms of price, the Nokia Lumia 930 costs a few dollars more compared with Amazon Fire Phone. According to Gizmodo, Nokia Lumia 930 costs $729. Meanwhile, Time Magazine mentioned the Amazon Fire Phone costs only around $690 with a no contract plan at AT&T.
