Nokia Lumia 930 vs iPhone 5S: Price and Specs Comparison in Australia
American multinational corporation Microsoft recently announced that its premium flagship phone Nokia Lumia 930 will be released by July in Australia to Telstra, Vodaphone, and Optus. The Windows smart phone can also be purchased outright from Harvey Norman, Dick Smith, AllPhones, and JB Hi-Fi. So how does Nokia Lumia 930 fare against Apple's iPhone 5S?
Price
In terms of price, iPhone 5S is more cost-effective compared with Nokia Lumia 930. According to Apple Web site, iPhone 5S costs US$299 or AU$317 from either AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. Meanwhile, Gizmodo mentioned that Nokia Lumia 930 costs $729. Given this price, smart phone users can already buy two units of iPhone 5S for the price of one Nokia Lumia 930 phone.
Physical Appearance
When it comes to physical appearance, Nokia Lumia 930 is bigger but iPhone 5S is thinner and lighter. According to Nokia Web site, Nokia Lumia 930 measures 137 mm in height, 71 mm in width, and 9.8 mm in thickness with a weight of 167 g. It sports bright and glossy shells that can be replaced and swapped. Smart phone users just have to pick from the different colours available based on their mood and style. Meanwhile, Apple Web site mentioned that iPhone 5S measured 123.8 mm in height, 58.6 mm in width, and 7.6 mm in thickness weighing 112 grams.
Display
Nokia Lumia 930 also has a bigger and better display than iPhone 5S. According to the above-mentioned sources, Nokia Lumia 930 has 5-inch ClearBlack, OLED display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and an image density of 441 pixels per inches (ppi). It features brightness control, orientation sensor, refresh rate 60 hz, sunlight readability enhancements, corning gorilla glass 3, easy to clean, high brightness mode, lumia color profile, sculpted glass, and wide viewing angle.
On the other hand, iPhone 5S only has 4-inch multi-touch display with a screen resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels and an image density of 326 pixels per inches (ppi). It also has fingerprint-resistant oleopphobic coating front and support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously.
Camera
When talking about camera, Nokia Lumia 930 has way better specs than iPhone 5S. Nokia Web site stated that Nokia Lumia 930 has 20-megapixel PureView camera with dual LED flash plus four directional microphones with Surround-Sound. Meanwhile, Apple Web site stated that iPhone 5S only has 8-megapixel back facing camera with 1.2-megapixel front facing camera. It features panorama, autofocus, tap to focus, face detection, LED flash, and photo geotagging.
Operating Systems
When it comes to operating systems, the two smart phones run on totally different systems. Nokia Web site stated that Nokia Lumia 930 runs on Windows 8.1 operating system while Apple Web site stated that iPhone 5S runs on iOS 6 which can be upgradable to iOS 7.1.1. There is also a planned upgrade of the smart phone's OS with the full roll-out of iOS 8 later this year.
Processor
Both smart phones also have totally different processors. According to the above-cited sources, Nokia Lumia 930 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz. On the other hand, iPhone 5S has Apple A6 chipset with dual-core Swift ARM v7-based clocked at 1.3 GHz.
Battery
When it comes to battery, Nokia Lumia 930 has 2420 mAh which can last up to 75 hours of music playback time and 21.7 hours talk time. The Windows phone also has the integrated wireless charging capability. Meanwhile, iPhone 5S has lithium-ion battery which is only capable of up to 40 hours audio playback and up to 8 hours of talk time.
Memory
Nokia Lumia 930 also has better memory than iPhone 5S. Nokia Web site also cited that Nokia Lumia 930 has 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. The phone's memory can be expanded to up to 128 GB via the microSD slot. It also comes with 7 GB of cloud storage from Microsoft OneDrive. Meanwhile, Apple Web site mentioned that iPhone 5S has only 1 GB of RAM and either 16 GB, 32 GB or 64GB of internal memory.
Other Specs
Apple Web site mentioned that iPhone 5S comes with finger print identity sensor that lets smart phone users access the confidential information from the mobile phone. The phone also comes with capability to purchase from the App Store, iTunes Store, and iBooks Store without requiring a password to do the online transaction. Users can also quickly upload and download information from their iPhone 5S mobile phones with the phone's LTE wireless capability. They can even store information from their mobile phone to the iCloud. Much more, iPhone's signature apps such as Siri digital assistant, Keynote, Calendar, Garagebands, iMovie, Numbers, Mail, iPhoto, Pages, and others come with the package.
On the other hand, there is a built-in Nokia MixRadio included in Nokia Lumia 930. There are also a wide array of apps included like personal information management, business apps, document format support, sync type apps, built-in game apps, and social apps. Examples of personal apps included are the OneNote, Kid's Corner, Social networks in Phonebook, Family Room and Wallet. The business apps in the package are Company Hub for innovativeness applications and the free download of corporate IM called Lync. Overall, smart phone users can just pick and use the different apps available for them to use and enjoy.
