Microsoft is set to release its colourful premium flagship phone Nokia Lumia 930 in Australia this month. The Windows smartphone will be released to all major carriers, Telstra, Optus and Vodafone. It can also be bought outright from Dick Smith, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and AllPhones. For those thinking about getting Google's Nexus 5 or this Microsoft device, here's how the Nokia Lumia 930 fare against Google's Nexus 5.

Physical Appearance

At a cursory glance, the Nokia Lumia 930 seems just around the same size as the Nexus 5. Checking the specs sheet, the Nokia Lumia 930 measures 137 mm in height, 71 mm in width and 9.8 mm in thickness, with a weight of 167 g. It sports bright and glossy shells that can be replaced and swapped. Smartphone users just have to pick from the different colours available based on their mood and style. Meanwhile, the Nexus 5 measures 137.9 mm in height, 69.2 mm in width and 8.6 mm in thickness, with a weight of 130 g.

Display

Both smartphones also have around the same display size. The Nokia Lumia 930 has 5-inch ClearBlack, OLED display with a screen resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and an image density of 441 pixels per inch (ppi). Meanwhile, the Google Nexus 5 has a 4.95-inch display with the same screen resolution as the Nokia Lumia 930 but with an image density of 445 ppi.

Camera

The major difference between the two smartphones is in their cameras. The Nokia Lumia 930 has 20-MP PureView camera with dual LED flash plus four directional microphones with Surround Sound. On the other hand, the Google Nexus 5 only has 8-MP rear-facing camera and a 1.3-MP front-facing camera. It features geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, photo sphere and dual recording.

Operating Systems

The two smartphones also run on totally different operating systems. The Nokia Lumia 930 runs on Windows 8.1 operating system. Meanwhile, the Nexus 5 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat which can be upgradable to 4.4.4 KitKat.

Processor

Both smartphones run on Qualcomm Snapdragon but with slightly different specs. The Nokia Lumia 930 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz. Meanwhile, the Google Nexus 5 has Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 Quad-core Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz.

Battery

When it comes to battery, the Nokia Lumia 930 has 2,420 mAh which can last up to 75 hours of music playback time and 17.9 hours talk time on #G. Meanwhile, the Google Nexus 5 only has Li-Po 2,300 mAh battery which is capable of up to 17 hours talk time (3G). Both smartphones have the integrated wireless charging capabilities.

Memory

Both the Nokia Lumia 930 and the Nexus 5 have 2 GB of RAM. The Nokia Lumia 930 has 32 GB of internal memory and 7 GB of cloud storage from Microsoft OneDrive. Meanwhile, the Google Nexus 5 only has either 16 or 32 GB of internal memory.

Other Specs

The Nokia Lumia 930 has pre-installed Nokia MixRadio. It also comes with plethora of apps such for personal information management like Kid's Corner, OneNote, Family Room, Social networks in Phonebook and Wallet. There are also business apps included in the Windows phone like Lync (Corporate IM) free download and Company Hub for enterprise applications. The Windows phone also comes with document format support for PDF, Word, Excel, OneNote, and PowerPoint.

There are also sync type apps included such as Exchange ActiveSync and Nokia Photo Transfer for Mac. It even sports a papyrus app which allows users to take down notes in their natural handwriting just like a paper. There are also built-in game apps like Touch UI, XBox-Live Hub, DirectX 11, and Adidas miCoach. Social apps like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, WhatsApp are also available and many more apps that Windows phone users can use and enjoy.

On the other hand, the Google Nexus 5 has an image, video and document editor. It also has voice memo/dial/commands and predictive text input. It also comes with Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk and Picasa.

Price

According to Know Your Mobile, the Google Nexus 5 costs about AU$550, which is almost $200 cheaper compared than the Nokia Lumia 930 which costs $729, according to Gizmodo.
