American multinational corporation Microsoft gets on the driver's seat with the set July release of both its premium flagship phone Nokia Lumia 930 and entry-level phone Nokia Lumia 635 4G enabled in Australia. So how does the entry level fare against the premium model?

Price

According to Gizmodo, Nokia Lumia 930 will cost $729 while Nokia Lumia 635 will cost only $279. Given this price, Windows phone users can already purchase two units of Nokia Lumia 635 for the price of one Nokia Lumia 930.

Availability

The same source also mentioned that Nokia Lumia 930 will be be released to all major carriers - Telstra, Optus and Vodafone. It can also be bought outright from Dick Smith, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and AllPhones. Meanwhile, Nokia Lumia 635 will only be available to Telstra and Optus on yet-to-be announced plans.

Physical Appearance

According to the Nokia Web site, Nokia Lumia 635 measures 129.5 mm in height, 66.7 mm in width and 9.2 mm in thickness weighing 134 g. While Nokia Lumia 930 is slightly bigger and heavier at 137 mm in height, 71 mm in width, and 9.8 mm in thickness with a weight of 167 g. Both Windows phone have bright and glossy shells that can be replaced and swapped. Smart phone users just have to pick from the different colours available based on their mood and style.

Display

The Nokia Web site also revealed that with the higher price tag the premium phone Nokia Lumia 930 naturally comes with a bigger and better display at 5 inches with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and image density of 441 ppi. Meanwhile, the entry level Nokia Lumia 635 only has 4.5-inch display with a screen resolution of 854 x 480 pixels and image density of only 221 ppi.

Camera

In terms of camera, the premium Nokia Lumia 930 sports a 20-megapixel PureView camera with dual LED flash plus four directional microphones with Surround-Sound. On the other hand, the entry level Nokia Lumia 635 only has 5-megapixel camera. Both Windows phones have the accompanying camera and video apps in the package.

Processor and OS

Nokia Web site also stated that the premium Nokia Lumia 930 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz. While, the entry level Nokia Lumia 635 only has Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. Both Windows phones run on the latest Windows 8.1 operating system.

Battery

The company Web site also cited that the premium model Nokia Lumia 930 has a 2420 mAh battery which can last up to 75 hours of music playback time and 21.7 hours talk time. It even comes with integrated wireless charging capability. On the other hand, the entry level Nokia Lumia 635 has 1830mAh battery which is capable only of up to 14 hours of talk time.

Memory

The company web site also stated that Nokia Lumia 930 has 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory while Nokia Lumia 635 only has 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of built-in memory. The memory of both Windows phones can be expanded to up to 128 GB via the microSD slot. They also come with 7 GB of cloud storage from Microsoft OneDrive.

Other Specs

Both the premium model Nokia Lumia 930 and the entry level Nokia Lumia 635 have pre-installed Nokia MixRadio. They also come with plethora of apps such for personal information management like Kid's Corner, OneNote, Family Room, Social networks in Phonebook, and Wallet. There are also business apps included in both Windows phones like Lync (Corporate IM) free download, and Company Hub for enterprise applications. The Windows phones also come with document format support for PDF, Word, Excel, OneNote, and PowerPoint. There are also sync type apps included such as Exchange ActiveSync and Nokia Photo Transfer for Mac. There are also built-in game apps like Touch UI, XBox-Live Hub, DirectX 11, and Adidas miCoach. Social apps like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, WhatsApp are also available and much more apps that Windows phone users can use and enjoy.There is just one app found in Nokia Lumia 930 called papyrus which is not found in the Lumia 635 phone. The papyrus app allows users to take down notes in their natural handwriting just like a paper.
