American multinational corporation Microsoft recently released its premium flagship phone Nokia Lumia 930 in Australia. The Windows smart phone will be available in the three major carriers Telstra, Optus, and Vodaphone and can be purchased outright from AllPhones, Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, and Dick Smith. So how does Nokia Lumia 930 fare against Samsung's third generation of phablet the Galaxy Note 3?

Price

When it comes to price, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is just almost half the price compared with Nokia Lumia 930. According to Whistleout, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is priced only at $400 while Gizmodo stated that Nokia Lumia 930 costs $729. Given this price, smart phone users just need to add a few dollars more and they can already buy two units of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for the price of one Nokia Lumia 930.

Physical Appearance

At the very first glance, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is evidently bigger and thicker than Nokia Lumia 930 although they are just about the same weight. According to Samsung company Web site, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 measures 151.2 mm in height, 79.2 mm in width, and 8.3 mm in depth with a weight of 168 g. The smart phone is available in Black, Pink, Merlot Red White, Rose Gold White and Rose Gold Black colors.

Meanwhile, Nokia Web site stated that Nokia Lumia 930 measures 137 mm in height, 71 mm in width, and 9.8 mm in depth with an almost the same weight just 167 g. The Windows smart phone has brightly-coloured glossy shells that can be switched and swapped depending on the mood and personality of the smart phone user.

Display

With Samsung Galaxy Note 3's bigger size comes bigger display compared with Nokia Lumia 930. According to the same sources cited above, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 sports a 5.7-inch full HD Super AMOLED screen with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. On the other hand, Nokia Lumia 930 only has 5-inch ClearBlack, OLED display with the same screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Processor and Operating System

On the inside, Nokia Lumia 930 has a lot better processor and operating system compared with Samsung Galaxy Note 3.Nokia Web site cited that Nokia Lumia 930 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz running on the latest Windows 8.1 operating system. While Samsung Web site mentioned that Samsung Galaxy Note 3 only has 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Processor for LTE and 1.9 GHz Octa Core Processor ( A15 1.9 GHz + A7 1.3 GHz) for 3G which are running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Camera

Nokia Lumia 930 also comes with way better specs than Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in terms of camera. Based on the Nokia Web site, the Nokia Lumia 930 sports a 20-megapixel PureView camera with dual LED flash plus four directional microphones with Surround-Sound.

On the other hand, Samsung Web site mentioned that Samsung Galaxy Note 3 only has 13-megapizel rear-facing camera and 2-megapixel front facing camera. It has BSI sensor, auto focus with smart stabilization, LED flash, and zero shutter lag.

Memory

In terms of memory Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB internal memory which is expandable to 64 GB through the microSD slot. Meanwhile, Nokia Lumia 930 only has 2 GB of RAM and the same 32 GB of internal memory but it can be expanded to up to 128 GB via the microSD slot. Plus the Windows phone has 7 GB of cloud storage available from Microsoft OneDrive.

Other Specs

Nokia Lumia 930 comes with a built-in Nokia MixRadio and a plethora of apps for personal information management, business apps, social apps, document format support, built-in game apps, and sync type apps. The Windows phone has Social networks in Phonebook, OneNote, Wallet, Family Room and Kid's Corner for the personal apps. It also has free download of corporate IM called Lync and Company Hub for innovativeness applications included in the business apps. The phones social apps include WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. It also comes with document format supports for Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, and OneNote. While the built-in game apps include and DirectX 11, XBox-Live Hub, Adidas miCoach, and Touch UI. It also has Nokia Photo Transfer for Mac and Exchange ActiveSync for the sync type apps. The Windows phone also sports a papyrus app which allows smart phone users to write notes on their Windows phone as if they are using a paper.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Note 3 comes with various Samsung apps like Samsung KNOX, Screen Mirroring, Safety Assistance, Samsung Link, Samsung Hub, S Health, Samsung Adapt Sound Auto adjust touch sensitivity (Glove friendly), S Voice Hands Free, Air View, Air Gesture, Share screen, 3-way calling), Samsung WatchON, Samsung Adapt Display, S Health, S Translator, Samsung Smart Scroll, Story Album, Samsung Smart Pause, Story Album, Samsung Apps, ChatON (Voice/Video Call), and Group Play. The smart phone also comes with an S Pen optimized feature.
