American multinational corporation Microsoft gets more colourful with the set July release of its premium flagship phone Nokia Lumia 930 in Australia. The Windows phone will be be released to all major carriers - Telstra, Optus and Vodafone. It can also be bought outright from Dick Smith, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and AllPhones. So how does Nokia Lumia 930 fare against Samsung Galaxy S5?

Price

In terms of price, Samsung Galaxy S5 is several hundred dollars more expensive compared with Nokia Lumia 930. According to Whistleout.com, Samsung Galaxy S5 is priced at AU$1,350 for the $30 plan at Vodafone while Gizmodo mentioned that Nokia Lumia 930 costs only $729. Given this price, smart phone users can just add a few dollars more and they can already buy two units of Nokia Lumia 930 for the price of one Samsung Galaxy S5.

Display

When it comes to display, Samsung Galaxy S5 has slightly bigger display compared Nokia Lumia 930. Based on the Samsung Web site, Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch super AMOLED screen with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with an image density of 432 pixels per inches (ppi).

Meanwhile, the Nokia Web site revealed that Nokia Lumia 930 has 5-inch screen with the same display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and but a slightly better image density of 441ppi.

Processors

Both Nokia Lumia 930 and Samsung Galaxy S5 have the same Qualcomm Snapdragon processors with Samsung Galaxy S5 having slightly better specs. The same sources mentioned above stated that Samsung Galaxy S5 has Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz while Nokia Lumia 930 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz.

Operating Systems

When it comes to operating systems, the two smart phones run on totally different systems. Both above-mentioned sources cited that Nokia Lumia 930 runs on the latest Windows 8.1 operating system while Samsung Galaxy S5 runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat.

Camera

Nokia Lumia 930 also comes with better camera specs than Samsung Galaxy S5. Based also on the Nokia Web site, Nokia Lumia 930 sports a 20-megapixel PureView camera with dual LED flash plus four directional microphones with Surround-Sound.

Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S5 only has 16-megapixel rear facing camera and 2-megapixel front facing camera. It also features dual shot, simultaneous high quality video and image recording, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, and image stabilization.

Memory

Both Nokia Lumia 930 and Samsung Galaxy S5 have the same 2GB RAM and an internal memory of either 32 GB. However, the memory Nokia Lumia 930 can be expanded up to 128 GB via the microSD and its has 7 GB of cloud storage from Microsoft OneDrive.

Others Specs

The Nokia Web site also mentioned that Nokia Lumia 930 has pre-installed Nokia MixRadio. It also comes with plethora of apps such for personal information management like Kid's Corner, OneNote, Family Room, Social networks in Phonebook, and Wallet. There are also business apps included in the Windows phone like Lync (Corporate IM) free download, and Company Hub for enterprise applications. The Windows phone also come with document format support for PDF, Word, Excel, OneNote, and PowerPoint. There are also sync type apps included such as Exchange ActiveSync and Nokia Photo Transfer for Mac. It even sport a papyrus app which allows users to take down notes in their natural handwriting just like a paper. There are also built-in game apps like Touch UI, XBox-Live Hub, DirectX 11, and Adidas miCoach. Social apps like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, WhatsApp are also available and much more apps that Windows phone users can use and enjoy.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S5 have dust-resistant and water-resistant capability. It is also preloaded with Google apps like Google Hangouts, Google Chrome, Google Play and others. There is also a heart rate monitor and a personalized fitness tracker with the device. There is also a make, tap, and go payment feature which allows users to make cashless payments; plus it comes with a fingerprint scanner.
