Nokia X2 vs. Sony Xperia M2 – Specifications, Features And Price Showdown
Microsoft recently announced that it is axing the Nokia X series of smartphones project. Nevertheless, the Nokia X2 will be released across globe as anticipated. Notably, the Nokia X2 was announced in June and the handset has recently been released in selected markets. The Sony Xperia M2, on the other hand, is the capable successor of the Xperia M released in April 2014. Display, Exterior and Size
The Nokia X2 features a 4.3-inch IPS LCD display bundled with a screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Whereas the Sony Xperia M2 comes with a relatively bigger 4.8-inch TFT display along with 540 x 960 pixels resolution. The pixel densities of the Nokia X2 and the Sony Xperia M2 stand at 217 ppi and 229 ppi respectively.
The Nokia X2 of boasts an improved display with the introduction of Nokia's ClearBlack polarization technology. This technology makes the outdoor viewing experience relatively better. As Anand Tech puts it, "It can make a mediocre display look OK, and a good display look great, at least in my experience." Furthermore, the Nokia X2's exterior is similar to the other Nokia X handsets. However, the X2 integrates a new translucent outer layer that makes the exterior look glossy.
The Sony Xperia M2, on the other hand, comes with a plastic body unlike the high-end Xperia devices, which keeps the handset's weight in check. However, the shiny plastic rear is prone to fingerprints and scratches, says Tech Radar.
The thickness and the weight of Nokia X2 are 0.44-inch and 150 g respectively, whereas the Xperia M2 is 0.34-inch thick and weighs 148 g. Hence, the Sony handset is both thinner and lighter when compared to the Nokia handset.
Hardware, Software and Memory
The Nokia X2 is powered by a dual-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 200) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz. The Sony Xperia M2, meanwhile, is powered by a superior quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz. Both the handsets house the same 1 GB of RAM. Also, the Nokia X2 runs on Android OS v4.3 Jelly Bean on top of Nokia X platform 2.0 UI, whereas the Sony Xperia M2 runs on Android OS v4.3 Jelly Bean (upgradable to higher versions).
The Nokia X2 comes with only 4 GB of internal storage with microSD card support for expansion up to 32 GB. The Sony Xperia M2, on the other hand, comes packed with a relatively better 8 GB of internal storage and microSD slot for expansion up to 32 GB.
Camera and Battery
The Nokia X2 sports a 5 MP rear-facing camera with LED flash, whereas the Xperia M2 features a good 8 MP primary camera with LED flash. In addition, both the phones come with the same VGA shooter in the front.
The Nokia X2 houses a Li-Ion 1800 mAh user-replaceable battery unit, while the Sony Xperia M2 features a relatively better Li-Ion 2300 mAh non-removable battery unit.

Connectivity, SIM and Colour
Both the phones support Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and microUSB. In addition, both the phones support micro-SIM type and dual-SIM mode. While the Sony handset supports NFC, the Nokia handset doesn't. Furthermore, the Nokia X2 comes in glossy green, orange black, yellow, white and matt dark grey, whereas the Sony Xperia M2 comes in black, white and purple hues.
Price
The Sony Xperia M2 (Dual-SIM) can be purchased at AU$299.95, while the Single-SIM variant is priced at AU$289.95. The Nokia X2 (Dual-SIM), on the other hand, is priced at 6000 Rubles in Russia that roughly translates to US$167 and AU$180. Nevertheless, the availability of the Nokia X2 handset in other regions is not known at this point.
