Nokia's budget-friendly smartphones are a huge hit in many countries across the globe, especially in the emerging markets. The handsets in focus, the Nokia XL and Nokia Lumia 630 were released in May 2014. Display, Exterior and Size

The Nokia Lumia 630 features a 4.5 inches IPS LCD display bundled with 480 x 854 pixels screen resolution. The Nokia XL, on the other hand, comes with a bigger 5 inches IPS LCD display along with 480 x 800 pixels screen resolution. The pixel density of Lumia 630 and Nokia XL stand at 218 ppi and 187 ppi respectively.

The Nokia XL resembles the original Nokia X with the same plastic exterior. However, the handset is quite hefty and because of the huge size, it is not comfortable on the hands. With a weight of 190 g, Nokia XL is extremely heavier than many other budget-friendly phones available in the market. As a silver lining, the construction quality is first-rate. The thickness and the weight of Lumia 630 are 0.36 inches and 134 g respectively, whereas the Nokia XL is 0.43 inches thick and weighs 190 g. Hence, Lumia 630 is thinner and lighter when compared to Nokia XL.

Hardware, Software and Memory

The Nokia XL is powered by dual-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4) ARM Cortex-A5 processor, clocked at 1 GHz. However, the latest Lumia 630 is powered by a superior quad-core, ARM Cortex-A7 (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz. Interestingly, the Lumia handset with a powerful processor comes with only 512 MB of RAM, while the Nokia XL comes with a relatively better 768 MB of RAM.Moreover, the Nokia XL runs on Nokia X 1.0 UI on top of Google's Android OS, while the Lumia 630 runs on Windows Phone 8.1 OS.

Also, the Nokia XL comes with only 4 GB of internal storage, along with microSD card support for expansion up to 32 GB, while the Lumia 630 comes with 8 GB of memory and a whopping expansion capacity up to 128 GB.

Camera and Battery

Both the phones sport 5 MP rear-facing camera units. While the Nokia XL features a 2 MP front-facing camera, the Lumia 630 does not come with a secondary camera unit at all. Also, Nokia XL's camera comes with LED flash, while the Lumia 630 doesn't.

The Lumia 630 houses a Li-Ion 1830 mAh user-replaceable battery unit, whereas the Nokia XL houses a relatively better 2000 mAh user-replaceable battery unit. Both the phones can provide up to 16 hours of talk-time. In addition, Nokia XL churns out a stand-by time of 30 days, while the Lumia 630 provides 25 days of stand-by time.

Connectivity, SIM and Colour

The Nokia XL supports Bluetooth 3.0, whereas the Lumia 630 supports Bluetooth 4.0. Also, both the phones support Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, mobile hotspot and USB charging. When it comes to SIM, both the handsets support dual-sim mode and micro-sim type.

In addition, both the phones come in bright and fresh colours like red/orange, green, blue, yellow, white, and black. However, not all colours are widely available.

The Nokia XL (Dual-Sim) can be purchased at AU$209.95, while the Lumia 630 (Dual-Sim) can be purchased at AU$199.95 in Australia.
