Customers who are not able to make up their minds as to whether to buy a smartphone or a tablet will have another reason to consider a phablet. A tablet with call facility is looking like to be the future of the smartphone/tablet market. Nokia is reported to be working on such a device. Customers can expect the device called "Bandit" to be in the market by the end of 2013.

The new phablet, "Bandit," according to reports from The Verge, will have a 6 inch screen with a 1080 p high resolution display. It is reported to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad core processor. The phone may carry a 20 MP camera.

Nokia is facing an uphill task of taking on the industry giants like Samsung and Apple. The company had reported sales to the tune of $7.46 bn for the period between Aril to June 2013. The figures were considered weak as they were less by 24 % of the sales the company had made during the same period in 2012.

Nokia has been banking on the Lumia series. "We are very proud of the recent creations by our Lumia team. During the third quarter, we expect that our new Lumia products will drive a significant part of our smart devices revenue," said Nokia's chief executive, Stephen Elop in a report by BBC. The Lumia series so far has not been able to make a major dent in the sales of Samsung or Apple.

The latest smartphone from the Nokia stable Lumia 1020 for example excessively relies on the 41 MP camera for sales where as the competitors like the Motorola X with its voice feature and the Samsung Galaxy S4 with its Air Gesture features try to provide a better overall user experience.

Expectations will be high on the new phablet "Bandit" by Nokia. Apple has decided to stick to a smaller screen sized phones for now and the major competition will be from Samsung and HTC. Nokia will need to have a big differentiator in the phablet however in order to make it a serious contender for the top slot in the smartphone/tablet market.
