Novak Djokovic And Serena Williams Named Best Tennis Players At 2015 ESPY Awards
Undoubtedly two of the greatest tennis players, Wimbledon champions Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams, who are both ranked first in the world, added another accolade in their ever-growing list of achievements in their sporting careers. Djokovic and Wiliams were recently awarded the Best Male and Best Female Tennis Player, respectively, at the 2015 Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Awards.
Both players continue to dominate the field in their respective tours. Djokovic won two grand slam titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. He also had a runner-up finish at the Roland Garros and remains a strong contender to win the title in the upcoming US Open.
Williams, on the other hand, had won all three slams in women’s tennis. She won her 21st grand slam title at the recently concluded grasscourt grand slam event at the All England Club. She is now one title away from eclipsing Steffi Graf’s record of 22 major titles. It was the seventh time that Williams had won the award, having already received the recognition in 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013. She was unable to accept the award personally because she is currently in Sweden for the Collector Swedish Open, according to WTATennis.com.
The 23rd annual ESPY Awards was held on July 15, 2015 at the Microsoft Theatre (formerly Nokia Theatre) in Los Angeles, California. Joel McHale hosted the ceremony that gives recognition to the best athletes in various fields.
