“The OA” creators Brit Marling (Prairie Johnson) and Zal Batmanglij have been teasing fans about the show. The showrunners have talked about the show’s mystery and if Prairie, also known as the OA is telling the truth.

Marling said there is something delicious in questioning the storyteller’s truth. She thinks as the male characters go back and forth on the truth behind Prairie’s story, the viewers also do.

“I think the place it kind of ultimately arrives at is that it maybe doesn’t matter as much the details are true, because there’s some essential core that she’s imparting that smacks of honesty,” Marling said. She added that it does not really matter if part of the story is a metaphor or a literal truth.

For Batmanglij, she believes the trauma in the story of the lead character is true. “The OA” co-creator said it is likely that Prairie is not able to tell her story as how it happened, but it is true that she had experienced something.

Even Batmanglij thinks that the story does not really matter because viewers have different interpretations about the show. “I think that’s what’s going to make it fun, if people do connect to it and if people see the show,” she told Variety.

When asked about what they wish viewers can take from the show, Marling said the show’s plot really leaks to the surface. For instance, if a viewer is a young woman who has been through a traumatic experience, she will be able to learn something from a show that talks about owning a woman’s recovery, with a sense of a mission.

Fans in Australia can catch “The OA” season 1 on Netflix. It is expected that the show will be picked up by its home network for a second instalment.
