Oculus VR making ‘special announcement’ at The Game Awards 2015
Oculus Rift is set to take the stage at The Game Awards 2015. Company co-founder and CEO Palmer Luckey will make a special announcement at the gaming event, which may be more information about the company’s bet into the virtual reality scene.
Geoff Keighley announced the special in a Twitter post. However, what the announcement will contain is still under wraps.
Show producer Geoff Keighley released a video, seen below, about the “special announcement,” though fans should not expect any clues from there either. With nothing being disclosed as to what Luckey has to announce, there is obviously going to be a lot of speculation as to what he could say. Windows Central has speculated that the announcement could reveal the final pricing and specific release date for its Oculus RIft VR headset.
Alongside this, more concrete details, such as selling information and preorder dates may also be announced. Since the Oculus Rift’s compatibility has only been announced for a few games, final compatibility plans for games such as “Flagship,” “Daylight” and “The Forest” or other platforms may be announced.
The Facebook-owned company Oculus Rift is a leading name in virtual reality. The most that is known about any release-related details on the Oculus Rift VR headset is its launch window, set on the first quarter of 2016.
The Oculus Rift VR headset has huge possibilities, whether as a tool in video games or a medium used for a virtual world tour. The headset has gone through several changes since 2012. While the company has not touched on specific pricing, a recent interview by RoadtoVR suggested that the product may fall around a US$350 (approx. AU$482) price tag.
“The Game Awards,” produced and hosted by Geoff Keighley, will have its second show live-streamed on several platforms including consoles. The show is looking to gain a huge audience and they are doing it well by collecting many exclusives to catch the interest. “Quantum Break” and “Far Cry Primal” are also set to feature premiere videos at the event.
In another teaser, it was also revealed that “Mortal Kombat X” will be getting a new character for the game. On top of that, the premiere of the “Rise of the Tomb Raider” DLC, Baba Yaga: The Temple of The Witch will be also be hosted at the event.
The Game Awards will held on Dec. 3 at 9 pm EST. The show will be live-streamed across several different platforms including Xbox Live, as per the event’s official website.
