Sony confirms official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for Xperia Z1 and Xperia Ultra which is currently rolling out to owners worldwide. The update includes new features on Sony's native apps, Xperia themes and downloadable custom UI packs from Sony Select. In addition, Xperia Z1 boot loader unlock issue is now fixed!

Official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Rolls Out

Sony ends the long wait for owners of Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra as the official update of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean begins rolling out via Sony PC Companion and Bridge for Mac. Sony's new firmware update brings several new features to both smartphones from apps to user interface. Some of these new features include the following:

1. Major improvements to Sony's native apps such as Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, Track ID and Sony Select.

2. New Xperia Themes included.

3. Downloadable UI packs for custom user interface from Sony Select.

4. Smart Social Camera now available for Xperia Z Ultra.

5. Project Butter retained.

Official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra has a build version of 14.2.A.0.290 with the same 3.4 kernel that can now be downloaded using the PC suite on a user's computer. For other qualified Xperia Z series users, expect the update coming to soon.

Unlocking Boot Loader Issue Fixed

Xperia Z1 unlocking boot loader consequence on the camera app has been resolved with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update of build version 14.2.A.0.290. Recently, the device suffered a bug that affects camera app once the boot loader has been unlocked and now Sony recommends updating the smartphone in order to unlock it without harming the camera.

According to Xperia Blog, DooMLoRD tweeted that the official Android 4.3 update fixed the unlocking boot loader camera bug and now he can resume his custom kernel work for the smartphone.

However, the good news hasn't been displayed yet on Sony's official unlock the boot loader Web site.

Unlocking the boot loader is required to manipulate the internals of the Xperia Z1 such as custom recovery, rooting and installation of various compatible custom ROMs.

Owners of the Xperia Z1 or Z Ultra can go to their computer and begin installing Sony PC Companion or Bridge for Mac to get the latest firmware update.
