Sony's promise of Android 4.2.2 firmware update for the Xperia Z may hit really soon with the certification for two versions of the firmware actively moving on the horizon.

XperiaBlog caught two new firmware builds certified for Sony Xperia Z by PTCRB and one of them might be the latest Android 4.2.2 update promised by Sony.

Two New Certified Firmware

One of the firmware has a build version of 10.1.1.A.1.319 which runs Android 4.1.2 firmware and comparable to the latest official Xperia Z 10.1.1.A.1.307 update recently released. The second certified firmware is more intriguing than the first certified one.

Carrying the first coded 10.3.X.X.XXX build type, the 10.3.A.0.407 firmware build may suggest a major Android update, pointing to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Google and Sony have been rumoured to be teaming up to create a Google-based Sony Xperia Z, running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, using pure Android UI and eliminating the Xperia UI altogether.

No release date has been confirmed when will the new firmware version could be released but it seems to be really, really soon.

Sony Xperia Z Heading to United States

Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai discussed at the D11 conference in the United States and pointed out that Xperia Z is heading to a U.S. network carrier.

"We will make an announcement about the Xperia Z with a carrier very shortly," said Kazuo Hirai in the D11 conference.

COO Phil Molyneux confirmed that in coming weeks, Xperia Z will be officially launched in the U.S. and help the region to sell the device as how it managed to stay as the best-selling smartphone in Japan for six weeks.

"We were able to do that - it's above and beyond Sony technology. It's the Sony brand. Thing about the marketing prowess we bring. We still have a lot of stuff to do here in the market, these is no question about it. I firmly believe the DNA is there to be back in that position," CEO Kazuo Hirai stated.

T-Mobile seems to be the network carrier chosen by Sony and will act as the frontrunner for the device. Sony Xperia Z T-Mobile variant may also have Android 4.2.2 firmware once released and a good chance that the new Android build would be certified for the HSPA+ (C6602) and European LTE (C6603) versions real soon.
