Now is the good time to get that trusty Galaxy S3 before stock outs occur. The million-selling Jelly Bean smartphone has been set for retirement as Samsung focuses on new devices to ramp up its revenue generation, a new report said.

The Asian tech giant is rechanneling its resources on fresher device lineup, bannered by the third-gen phablet Galaxy Note 3 and the various editions of its new flagship, the Galaxy S4, South Korean news site ETNews said in a report.

In the months ahead, more Samsung efforts will be poured in producing and marketing new gadgets, among them the Note 3 and three GS4 variants - the Galaxy S4 Mini, the Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Galaxy S4 Active.

Samsung will also build the Google-centric Galaxy S4 Nexus, the online ordering of which will be live on June 26 via Google Play Store.

The adjustments, however, will lead to the production of other Galaxy smartphones, specifically the low-performing models. While the same report did not mention if the GS3 was selling poorly but it confirmed that it will be discontinued.

"Samsung is planning ... to retire the Galaxy S3 sooner than expected," ETNews said. To date, the same handset holds the distinction as best-selling Samsung mobile phone yet with more than 40 million units of total sales since its May 2012 release date.

The decision was apparently arrived at following Samsung's production revision, on a downward path, for the GS4. July shipments for the 2013 flagship have been cut down by up to 50 per cent after shifting record numbers in April and May this year.

By June, however, global sales of the GS4 have become sluggish that Samsung seems convinced it has to come up with complementing Galaxy products to meet its 2013 revenue targets.

The big Samsung push for the rest of the year will be led by the 6-inch, quad-core-powered Note 3, other mid-range Galaxy models plus the various GS4 editions that will be rolled out during the same period.

But what could prove as a silent hit for Samsung is still the GS3 as the rush to own the gadget could follow shortly once the last batch of stocks are pushed out.

Already a generation-old, the GS3, according to experts, remains a worthy buy even for power Android users owing to its high-end hardware specs that are ready to chew up the latest Jelly Bean or Key Lime Pie builds and even the new features deployed with the Galaxy S4 earlier this year.
