One More Solid Reason to Wait for iPhone 6 Release Date: iPhone 5S Scores Low on Battery Life Test
If the iPhone 5S occupies a top place on your Christmas shopping list, you may want to reconsider and wait perhaps for Apple's rumoured phablet, the iPhone 6, which is reportedly set for a release date some time on 2014.
The latest Apple flagship, according to BGR, scored very low compared to its rivals with Android hero phones in a battery showdown that measures call time and Internet use in minutes. The 5S, as shown in the test conducted by Which? Tech Daily, lasted only 564 minutes during a marathon active call test.
When connected to the Internet, the same test showed that the iPhone 5 successor's battery time was stretched by as much as 298 minutes.
You can view a pictograph of the test results here, which involved major 2013 handset brands including the Windows 8-powered Nokia Lumia 1020.
But with only a battery rating of 1570mAh, the outcome was hardly surprising to many experts though for buyers craving for an iPhone gift come Christmas time, the development is quite a turn off.
Especially if operating hours in a single charge is such a big issue for a device purchase, waiting out for something better seems a good proposition. The iPhone 6 comes to mind, which many believe is a large-screen handset that will sport a no lower than 4.7-inch display panel.
But the problem is the next-generation iPhone will definitely not make it in time for the 2013 holiday festivities. The earliest Apple could out the phone is middle of 2014 with analysts debating a June to Sept launch in the same year.
So what buyers should get their hands to for a smartphone that is powerful and will not run out of steam too soon? The best candidate there is, is the same test results should be consulted, is Samsung's Galaxy 4.
The GS4 is bestowed with a bigger capacity battery at 2600mAh, which matches the power juice requirements of its 5-inch screen and quad-core processing muscles.
In fact, the test conducted by Which? Tech Daily placed the Galaxy S4 at number one on both categories, too far from the iPhone 5S that settled only for seventh place, also on the two categories.
The GS4 clocked a total of 1051 minutes during call time and 405 minutes when connected to the Web. In between the two rival devices, Androids ruled the showdown.
So the Galaxy S4 promises not only better computing performance but the bonus convenience of not having to recharge too often, which is heaven for users in the iOS and Android spheres alike.
But for the most loyal Apple fans, holding out for the iPhone 6 seems worth the wait as recent reports suggest it will carry 64-bit A8 CPU, solar-enabled charging-on-the-go and up to 4GB of RAM.
Release date, however, will not happen very soon for the iPhone 6 and the earliest schedule seen by analysts is around summer of 2014.
