In 2014, OnePlus had launched its first flagship smartphone called the OnePlus One. Rumours have it that the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer is currently working on a successor model. New reports suggest that the sequel model will be called OnePlus 2.

Phone Arena says that even though the rumour mill used various names for the OnePlus One sequel such as “OnePlus Two” or “One Plus One Two”, fresh leaks reveal that the Chinese manufacturer has decided to launch the device with the moniker “One Plus 2.” According to Forbes, the handset will be released in the third quarter of this year. The reason behind the delayed arrival is that the Snapdragon 810 chipset that powers up the device is facing manufacturing issues.

Forbes adds that even Samsung has cited the same issue for building the Galaxy S6 flagship. However, since Samsung can build their own Exynos chips, the first batch of their 2015 flagship is speculated to feature the Exynos 7420 chipset instead of Snapdragon 810 chips. OnePlus has opted to out delay the arrival of OnePlus 2 to the third quarter of this year so that it can be launched after the issues surrounding the Snapdragon 810 chips are resolved.

There are many other brands like LG and Sony that are heavily rumoured to feature the Snapdragon 810 chipset on forthcoming flagship models. Although the Snapdragon 810 SoC is known to be suffering from overheating issues, Xiaomi and LG have already launched the Mi Note Pro and LG G Flex 2, respectively.

As far as other specs are concerned, Neowin says that the OnePlus 2 handset will feature a 5.5-inch display screen supporting Quad HD resolution and 4 GB of RAM. It further adds that even though fresh reports reveal delayed arrival of OnePlus 2, the delay is not significant as the sequel device was already expected to arrive by second quarter of this year. OnePlus was also speculated to launch a tablet, but the company has confirmed that it is not working on such a device.
