OnePlus One Android handset will run a CyanogenMod software version, which is set to launch in the second quarter of 2014.

The smartphone will offer some superlative specs, thoughtful design and build quality. Pete Lau, former Oppo exec and the current OnePlus CEO, said the handset will cost less than the flagship Android handsets.

What is CyanogenMod?

CyanogenMod is an open source operating system for smartphones and tablet computers based on the Android mobile platform. It is developed as free and open source software based on the official releases of Android by Google with added original and third-party codes.

A design sketch of the phone got leaked in the previous week and the same can be viewed here - BGR. Here are some of the aspects that can be expected from this brand new phone.

Battery Life

To make the battery last the whole day, users should lower the brightness, close the unused apps, or disable the Bluetooth and other services when not in use. To prolong the whole day with a single charge, without having to do any of the compromises mentioned above, OnePlus One will feature a 3,100 mAh non-removable battery, BGR reported.

For the battery to be removable, OnePlus would be constrained to either cut back in the battery life or increase the size of the hardware. Clearly, OnePlus One did not compromise on the superior performance.

LTE Connectivity

According to BGR, the phone will have nine-band LTE support, which will permit high speed connectivity in many countries across the world - LTE bands 1, 4, 7, 18, 38, 39, 40 and 41 will all be supported.

Phone Body

The handset will have an aluminium unibody. This aspect is supported by the design sketch, which said, "AL unibody" and "cam deco AL" with polycarbonate elements ("PC injection molding").

Technical Specifications

From the leaked sketches, the handset will have a power key located in one of the sides like Sony Xperia handsets.

According to Android Community, the smartphone is supposed to have a 5.5-inch full HD screen in a 5-inch body. The company might have removed bezels to make this possible.

The phone uses a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. The RAM will be limited to 2 GB. The rear and front cameras are set to 13 MP and 5 MP respectively.

The phone will be available with 16 GB and 64 GB storage variant. It does not provide a dual-SIM support.

Designed For Hacker

OnePlus One is being designed for hackers, ZDNet claimed.

"You can root, unroot, install stock Android or whatever you please with your phone, warranty won't be voided as long as there is no hardware damage - frying your CPU due to over-clocking will void the warranty," OnePlus said.

Price And Launch Date

OnePlus One will cost under $400 and will be launched in more than 10 markets worldwide in the second quarter of 2014, ZDNet reported.

How is OnePlus One Different from Oppo N1?

According to ZDnet, the phone will come powered with CyanogenMod, which has worked with OnePlus developers from the beginning. This means there shouldn't be any of the hitches users faced with the ROM of Oppo's N1 phablet.
