OnePlus One Releases Its OxygenOS Update Based On Android 5.0.2 Lollipop
In what begun as a highly anticipated launch of the OnePlus One smartphone, with high-end specifications but at affordable price, the maker has now released its inaugural version of OS that is based on Android Lollipop but specifically customized for the OnePlus One Phone. The new OxygenOS means that the smartphone maker moves away from use of CyanogenMod to using its own operating system.
Last year, OnePlus launched its flagship phone dubbed OnePlus One, which is a high-end smartphone, which offers excellent value to customers. In a similar move, a couple of days ago, OnePlus, the maker announced that it would be releasing OxygenOS that is pegged on Android Lollipop 5.0.2 and available for OnePlus One phone users.
When the company launched OnePlus One phone, the default operating system was founded on CyanogenMod but with the ability for tinkerers to be able to install other variations as it deemed fit. ZD Net highlights that the OxygenOS will give its user something close to what can be likened to pure Google experience.
The design of the OxygenOS focuses mainly on battery life and performance and tries to keep the operating system light. At the moment, there is no over the air installation but users of the phone can visit the site oneplus.net/oxygenos to get further details on how they can install it on their One phone.
OxygenOS is apparently the first attempt of OnePlus to design its own custom Android ROM. According to one of the founders of OnePlus, Carl Pei, he said that building their own operating systems would allow the company to quickly respond to what users ask for and make it easy to implement updates, reports Digital Trends.
Pei further added that in an environment where every company is battling it out to come up with its own ROMs, OnePlus thought it wise that it goes back to basics to place things such as performance and batter life as core features in the design of their OS. In order to use OxygenOS on OnePlus, users will have to flash it on their device.
