Opening cinematic for 'Halo 5: Guardians' now available for viewing
Microsoft has released the opening cinematic to “Halo 5: Guardians” for everyone to see, and it seems to have been received positively despite “Halo” protagonist Master Chief not making an appearance. Instead, the cinematic is focused on Fireteam Osiris as they take on a combination of Covenant and Promethean forces in the action-packed video for the anticipated Xbox One exclusive.
The cinematic was revealed through the Xbox Wire blog, where it was said that the video was directed by developer 343 Industries with help from AXIS Animation, Profile Studios and Warner Bros. It’s clear that Microsoft wants fans to know that “Halo 5” is a big deal, and it seems like the company has gone through all the stops to make sure every aspect of the game is well-done, even the opening cinematic.
Fans will recognise a couple of faces in the cinematic, like Spartan Jameson Locke who first appeared in the live-action series “Halo: Nightfall.” Locke is voiced by and modeled after Mike Colter, who will be playing Luke Cage in a new Marvel Netflix series.
Spartan Edward Buck is the other face fans will recognise, as he first appeared in “Halo 3: ODST.” This character is voiced by and modeled after Nathan Fillion, according to Screen Rant, who is famous for his roles in “Castle” and “Firefly.” Fillion’s charm is all over the opening “Halo 5” cinematic as he busts quips left and right, almost as if he wasn’t taking on a horde of alien foes.
The return of Edward Buck isn’t the only fan service moment of the game, as “Halo 5” will be drawing from a lot of “Halo” media. Fans already know how “Halo: Nightfall” is incorporated into the story, but it was also confirmed that Master Chief’s Blue Team from the “Fall of Reach” novel would also be making an appearance.
“Halo 5: Guardians” launches on Oct. 27 for the Xbox One. The game is one of the most awaited titles of the year, since Xbox fans have always anticipated the previous games in the “Halo” series. The opening cinematic may have just fanned even more expectations from players.
