Australian carrier Optus announced that its Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 handsets will receive the 4.4.2 version of Android Kitkat OS in early to mid-June.

It was initially reported that the two smartphones were set to get an Over-The-Air update before the end of April but the month has gone past and there was no sign of the update. Recently, Optus released another press release in which the carrier stated that the update will roll out in June.

Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 started receiving the 4.4.2 version of Kitkat early this year. Although Note 3 users around the globe started updating to the KitKat OS in the beginning of January, the Samsung Galaxy S4 users did not get the update until mid-February. Nevertheless, the two handsets from all major countries received appropriate update.

However, some users from the US are still waiting for the update. Although most of the major carriers have rolled out the KitKat update to their respective Samsung handsets, there are still a few carriers left who are yet to deliver the update. For starters, Samsung Galaxy S4 users on MetroPCS and C Spire Wireless are still stuck on Android 4.3. Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owners were also in despair in waiting for the update.

The roll out will be gradual as Samsung will have to send the 4.4.2 Kitkat update to carriers for certification, which may take quite a while and will be dependent to carrier's own speed of roll out. The carriers with delayed update roll out have not disclosed the exact reasons of the said delay of the update. However, it was speculated that one reason could be the amount of vigorous testing which Samsung does with each of its devices.

On the other hand, Google is already prepping for the release of the last Kitkat update, which is dubbed as 4.4.3 version. This version aimed to fix some of the issues and bugs brought about by previous version.

Furthermore, the company was also working on the alleged next generation of Android mobile software purported as 4.5 Lollipop. Google has not confirmed any of these rumours but if reports proved to be true, Samsung devices will be trailing behind the Android updates.
