Here is some amazing news for “Orange Is the New Black” ("OITNB") fans. Netflix announced that the release date for “Orange Is the New Black” season 5 is set for June 9. The show will be available for viewing on Netflix in select countries, the UK and Australia included.

For those who are not quite familiar with the show, here are some details. "OITNB" is an American comedy drama created by “Weeds” writer-producer Jenji Kohan. The show is based on the Piper Kerman memoir, “Orange Is the new Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison” (2010). It follows the story of a group of women serving their time in a federal prison.

The series’ first instalment was released on Netflix on July 11, 2013. Currently, “Orange Is the New Black” has been renewed for its fifth, sixth and seventh seasons, with its fifth instalment arriving this summer. Lionsgate TV has production rights to the show.

Actors Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Kate Mulgrew, Michael Harney and Uzo Aduba will be seen playing respective lead roles. In other news, “Orange Is the New Black” actress Laverne Cox has been recently dishing details about the series’ upcoming season, according to People. Though the 32-year-old actress kept it mostly vague, she seemed really excited about the new episodes.

“It is really juicy and really amazing,” the actress told People in an interview. “If you’re a fan, and I’m a fan of the show even as a person who is on it, when I got the script I felt like I was tearing into it. When actually, it was on my iPad [and I was] scrolling down like, ‘What happens?’ because it was a cliffhanger at the end of season 4,” she said.

Cox further said that the “Orange Is the New Black” will be over in just three days. All 13 episodes will be broadcast within a three-day period. “So we are jamming a lot in. A lot happens in that period of three days,” she said.
