The growing attraction between Elijah Mikaelson and pregnant werewolf Hayley Marshall in "The Originals" had the viewers buzzing over the forthcoming love triangle in the CW spin-off series since soon-to-be daddy Klaus already showed signs of jealousy. Daniel Gillies and Phoebe Tonkin teased the fans as they talk about the Elijah-Hayley relationship with co-stars Claire Holt and Joseph Morgan also weighing in.

In Episode 8 titled "The River in Reverse," Elijah (Daniel Gillies) had to deal with Klaus' (Joseph Morgan) bite as a result of the Original hybrid's jealousy with his growing closeness to Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). "Elijah seems to covet those really, really complicated relationships. He's a thousand years old. One would think that he had a better sense of self-preservation," Daniel Gillies shared to Zap2it during an interview on the Atlanta set.

The 37-year-old actor further added: "It's weird, isn't it, that he sort of wants this. Could it be any more complicated and more of a minefield than choosing Hayley? It's this burgeoning thing. And it seems like the more that they try and resist it, the more that it snowballs. They are definitely magnetically drawn to one another."

Actress Phoebe Tonkin, who portrays the pregnant werewolf Hayley, addresses the connection with Elijah to be "very innocent" at the moment in the WetPaint report with the possibility of turning into something else quickly and intensely. "The Originals" Episode 8 showed another tender moment between the two characters when Hayley decided to stay and take care of the wounded Elijah.

"I think it's a really nice bond at the moment and they're still being very careful. Obviously she's pregnant with his brother's child and she's not trying to get herself in a situation between two brothers or anything right now," Phoebe Tonkin stated.

The 24-year-old Australian actress teased: "But she's been let down by a lot of men in her life, she sees Elijah as a big change in terms of what she has come to expect from people. People always let her down and not supported her and here's this guy who wants to protect her and almost involve her in his own family. Hayley obviously doesn't have a family of her own, so she really appreciates that."

Co-star Claire Holt has weighed in as well on the budding relationship since her character, Rebekah, notices the connection between Elijah and Hayley. The 25-year-old Aussie actress revealed that the blonde vampire will be having a pang of jealousy too with Hayley as the new woman in Elijah's life taking up his attention. Ms Holt shared: "She knows that this could go very wrong. But she thinks so highly of Elijah. She's not one to really tell him how to behave or act. It'll be interesting to see how that goes."

As for Klaus, English actor Joseph Morgan teased that his character will not be able to deal really well with Elijah having feelings for Hayley, the woman who bears his hybrid child. "There's the idea that Elijah is usurping his role as father. He's taking on that role and that is addressed in the show. We'll absolutely make reference to the fact that you might think that he's the father with the way that he's acting. I think that was a really fair decision from the writers to create that romantic tension between those two characters because that really messes with Klaus," the 32-year-old actor stated.

"The Originals" airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on the CW network.
