Fans waiting for the brand new episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 are given a preview of what to expect in Episode 9 titled "The Cell." Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, stars of the CW TV series, talks about the upcoming episode flashbacks that focuses on Damon Salvatore's dark past in the TVLine spoiler report.

Ian, 34, may have found the flashbacks on his vampire character "really cool" but the actor described the scenes as "brutal" and "crazy." Co-star Nina Dobrev apparently had a hard time being a part of the brutal scenes.

What did the brunette actress say about the scenes that involves the dark secret society? "I'm not good at that kind of stuff and I hated watching it. I'll probably have to close my eyes when I watch it on TV," Ms Dobrev shared.

The secret society, the Augustine vampire and the experiments are expected to be an interesting storyline this Season 5. Additionally, a new villain could be revealed in the TV series since Silas (Paul Wesley) is no longer in the picture after Stefan Salvatore (also Paul Wesley) killed and buried the immortal and powerful witch in Episode 7 "Death and the Maiden."

It is imagined that the new villain will match or even surpass the level of evil that Silas brought to Mystic Falls. The name Dr Wes Maxfield (Rick Cosnett) sounds just about right provided that he is a member of the secret society and he has been conducting his vampire experiments at Whitmore College.

Dr Maxfield would have succeeded with his work on college student Jesse (Kendrick Sampson) if Elena did not kill him in order to save Damon's life during a struggle. Meanwhile, the WetPaint report speculates Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) could be the next Augustine vampire since the released CW promotional pictures show the actress strapped down on an examining table where lab experiments are conducted.

All of the possible questions asked regarding the Augustine vampire and the secret society could be answered when "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5, Episode 9 titled "The Cell" airs on Thursday night, December 5, at 8 p.m. ET on the CW network.
