Oscar winning actor, Sean Penn has met with Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez Saturday to express his gratitude for the aid he received from the leftist President for Penn's relief organization in Haiti.

In a meeting at the Miraflores presidential hall over the weekend, the actor said that the aid from the Venezuelan government, spearheaded by President Chavez, had helped his J/P Haitian Relief Organization with its humanitarian work particularly in the distribution of medical supplies.J/P Haitian Relief Organization was established to provide aid in Haiti following the devastating earthquake in 2010.

According to the Associated Press, no details were announced by either Chavez or Penn as to the amount of financial aid the Venezuelan government had donated to Penn’s relief organization.

But the leftist president noted in his statement that Penn, has discussed with him ‘new plans and ideas’, as he expressed his admiration for the Milk actor.

“Sean is an activist of the struggles for the world's oppressed peoples,” Chavez was quoted as saying by the AP.

This is not the first time that Penn has met with Chavez, he added. The actor he said had met him a number of times in the last few years, praising the actor for his critical stance on U.S. foreign policy.
