'Outlander' star Caitriona Balfe wins at BAFTA Scotland; Thanks Sam Heughan and producers
“Outlander” star Caitriona Balfe won the BAFTA Scotland award in the Best Actress category. A video of her acceptance speech released online shows her thanking all the people who made it possible for her to stand on that stage and be recognised for her talent.
Balfe (Claire) began by thanking the Executive Producers Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis. The actress explained that she has never been on a TV show before and the producers had taken a big chance by casting her in the main role. She also thanked Co-producer Michael O’Halloran for believing in her.

Some of the crew members also got a special mention in the speech. Balfe said that her day would never get done without the crew member who helps her with her costume, her driver and the person who helps with her hair and makeup.
Fellow cast member Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) got a special mention for being “the most amazing co-star.” She said that she feels very lucky to have Heughan and Tobias Menzies (Jack/Frank Randall) with her on the set of “Outlander” everyday.
Another video released online that appears to have been taken just before the award ceremony shows both Heughan and Balfe. The actress said that it is unfortunate that the two were not nominated in the same category. Her fellow cast member joked that he was trying to get nominated for Best Actress, and added that he would look really good in a pair of tights.

Heughan, however, did not win an award at the BAFTA Scotland. But, support for him poured in with the fans saying that he deserved an award too.
After the event, Balfe revealed that the jewellery she wore for the event was made by mothers of children with cancer at Korlebu hospital in Accra Ghana. It is a project that helps them earn while at the hospital. The cast and crew are expected to be back on the “Outlander” set soon to continue working on Season 3.
