The world may be debating on the criteria the next pope must have, yet it remained united to confirm that the man to succeed Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has large red shoes to fill. And while most parents and families of those cardinal electors are proud their kin had the privilege to be included in the selection of the new pope, there are others who don't want them to inherit the seat of St Peter the Apostle, the first pope of the secular Roman Catholic religion.

Eleonore Schoenborn, the 92-year-old mother of Austrian Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, does not want him to become pope. And she wants him home, if possible, the minute the papal conclave ends and the new 266th pope has been installed and proclaimed.

"The whole family is afraid that Christoph will be elected pope," Ms Schoenborn told the Kleine Zeitung, an Austrian newspaper, on Tuesday, just in time as the 115 Roman Catholic cardinals get holed up in Sistine Chapel to pick the its new spiritual head.

While it may be flattering to have a pope in the midst of one's family circle, Ms Schoenborn fears the bonds that tie them will be already cut right there and then if her son gets elected and accepts the responsibility as the new pope.

"It is over for me. I will not see Christoph ever again because I no longer have the strength to travel to Rome," the almost centenarian mother said.

The thought of no longer seeing her cardinal son pains Ms Schoenborn, who is accustomed to their mother-son weekly Saturday phone calls. Cardinal Schoenborn likewise have a yearly rendezvous with his mother wherein he meets her for a couple weeks every year in Vienna. Ms Schoenborn resides in Vorarlberg province which is at the other end of the country.

The 68-year-old Cardinal Schoenborn is on the short list of papabiles sighted to succeed Pope Benedict XVI, who resigned from his 8-year papacy tenure last February 28, 2013. He was the first pope in nearly 600 years to follow his own free will and abdicated from the responsibility of herding the 1.2-billion strong flock of the Roman Catholic church.

However, he had told his family and kin he is not up to the job, if elected, to become pope.
