Fans of the hit CW TV series "The Vampire Diaries" rejoice! Actor Paul Wesley, who portrays the "Vampire Diaries" character Stefan Salvatore, welcomed 2014 with a bang when he won the E!News 2013 Hottie of the Year poll.

E!News made the announcement via social networking site Twitter. In the Wet Paint report, E!'s post on their Twitter account @ENews reads: "Your #HottieOfTheYEAR is... #TVD's @PaulWesley!"

It appears the news reached the actor when he tweeted a "Thank you" message. "Ha thanks- you guys are truly stupendous," Mr Wesley posted to his more than 2 million followers on his Twitter account @paulwesley.

Additionally, Mr Wesley's co-star Ian Somerhalder is also up in another E!Online poll called "Celeb of the Year." Ian portrays Damon Salvatore, Stefan's brother with a darker side, and the 35-year-old actor is against "Thor" and "Avengers" actor Tom Hiddleston for the "Celeb of the Year" recognition.

As Paul Wesley secured the "Hottie of the Year" title, the 31-year-old actor enjoys his holiday break from filming "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 in Sydney, Australia with girlfriend Phoebe Tonkin and co-star Nathaniel Buzolic. The CW stars spent as well New Year's Eve with the Sydney-siders, according to the Telegraph report. Paul Wesley and Phoebe Tonking spent their first Christmas as a couple with the family of "The Orginals" actress in her hometown.

Paul and Phoebe reportedly started dating after the actor divorced from his wife Torrey DeVitto in July 2013. The pair's relationship appears to be getting more serious as they had gone searching for an apartment in New York City.

Other TVD stars spending their holiday break in Australia are Nina Dobrev, who grabbed lunch with a pal at Bondi's The Bucket List, and Claire Holt who shared an image of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. "Holt and Tonkin both grew up on the Gold Coast playing a teenage mermaids in H2O: Just Add Water, and Tonkin certainly didn't waste any time getting among the sand and salt," reads the report.

The TVD cast will be returning soon to the Atlanta set and resume their work in filming the episodes for the vampire TV series. "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 resumes airing with the 100th episode titled "500 Years of Solitude" on Thursday night, January 23, at 8 pm EST on the CW Network.
