‘Penny Dreadful’ Season 2 Spoilers: Ethan Swears To Protect Vanessa [VIDEO]
“Penny Dreadful” Season 2 is going to be much darker than before. Also, the new season will see Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) and Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) forming a deeper bond. In his latest interview, the “Pearl Harbour” star revealed Ethan swears to protect Vanessa but he also has his own demons that he needs to fight.
“Ethan has an incredibly dark past, he is dealing on something that is weighing on him every day,” Hartnett said during his interview with Showtime. “The threats of this season really revolved around finding a way to protect Vanessa. Ethan has sworn himself to protect her but obviously he has an element of himself that he can’t control.”
When asked about how he gets into Ethan’s head, the 36-year-old star admitted it was his first time to play a character without a backstory or “knowing where the character is going.” He said that he had to create a story for his character to understand what Ethan is going through.
“Penny Dreadful” Season 1 guest star Helen McCrory is set star in the new season as a series regular. She will be playing the role of human antagonist Madam Kali, a seductive spiritualist who will pose a threat to Vanessa Ive’s group, as they continue their fight against the evil forces.
Based on the new trailer, Vanessa keeps on getting the evil tarot card which could only mean that she is set to deal with someone darker and powerful. Without showing any sign of fear, she glows like an angel as she looks at the three devil cards. The devil is definitely coming, as the teaser features the haunted heroine surrounded by evil cards.
Guest stars of the upcoming season include Simon Russell Beale as the eccentric Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle, Douglas Hodge as a Scotland Yard investigator, Sarah Greene as Poole’s daughter, Hecate; and Jonny Beauchamp as the man with singular past. Patti LuPone is also set to join the ensemble cast as the mysterious character from Vanessa’s past.
“Penny Dreadful” Season 2 returns to Showtime at 10 p.m. ET/PT on May 3. Check out the short teaser below courtesy of Penny Dreadful.
